I think the weapon bay doors do fold like the F-22, you can see from pictures of the plane's underside the lines which indicate folds.

I am also wary in taking that as the standard opening speed for the aircraft. I'm not sure about F-22 or F-35, but it's not impossible for the bays to move at different speeds when firing in the air and for maintenance on the ground. I'd withold a conclusion until we see J-20 firing a missile from one of those bays.

By now, we true followers of the J-20 (I'm not really one though) should come to realize: The J-20 has been strip-teasing the whole world. While to the domestic viewers, it promotes patriotism in waves, to the not-so-friendly ill wishers or sour grapes, however, it keeps coming back to say: You wished wrong again! I can do this (proving to be the real thing, retacking the landing gears, having the bays, opening the bay doors, etc. etc.)...

We can't use the M word here on this forum?? I got a warning from siegecrossbow and the M word was removed. I'll note that, but don't feel it's necessary to be so uptight language wise.

Well I think it was more related to the f-bomb you dropped :p

for those in the know, is it normal for the PLA to allow video access like this to their on-going military projects? its one thing for them to allow filming/picture taking when they first want the public to 'unofficially' know about the j-20, its another for them to allow regular joes to continue filming tests and maintenance on such project. any reason for this?

i think it's not hard. maybe the bay is opened manually from outside, or on maintenance mode, or something along that line.all of us will know there are "safe mode" on computer, or "testing mode" for programs where they just test something repeatedly at different settings until it breaks. i won't be surprised. i really doubt they'll open that slow in real missions. with that speed of weapon launch, it's no different from firing on a game using a musket. you have to wait? that target is already long gone!! you're safer throwing bombs out the window ww1 style instead.

The doors may fold, but they don't seem to fold as neatly as those on the F22, and thus would generate more drag. Not really a massive issue since the main weapons bays will only be open for a few seconds to fire a missile or two before closing again.

As for the opening speed, well a slower speed for maintenance would make sense. Did not consider that. Does the F22 also have this dual-speed feature?

Oh I dunno I think it folds quite similar almost identical to F-22, the difference is the serrations and possibly a slight difference in "area" distribution between the panels
