Regarding the picture, I don't think it shows a real engine.

The thing is just far too featureless beyond the nozzles. If you have ever seen a picture of a turbofan, you would have noticed all the pipes, wires and what not running all over the place. ANd before anyone suggests that there is a cover, bare in mind that one of the reasons why all those bits are exposed on real engines is to allow easy access through maintenance panels so you don't have to take the whole engine out for routine checks and minor repairs.

Even if the J20 doesn't have maintenance panels for the sake of stealth, there is still no need for any cover over the engine as that is just useless extra weight.

The other giveaway is the manner in which this 'engine' is being transported.

Since when has anyone transported turbofan engines on the back of a flatbed without so much as a tarp to cover it? When has anyone seen a picture of any jet engine transported that way? Never mind a brand new prototype engine for a top secret still under development fighter?

My guess is that this is a part of a full sized model of a J20 that some company is building for whatever reason.

Wrt the "cover" thing...

What if it's a cloth/fabric covering the engine while it was being transported, to protect all the wire and pipes? It's so dark and blurry that could be an explanation.

Though I agree there is a chance the engine could really just be for a mock up or something.

I do believe that it is a genuine photo, but not a genuine engine. Not sure why a mockup is needed, but it indeed looks like a mockup.

Is this engine the same was the one on the J-20? If its not, it may be our first glimpse at the WS-15

No I don't think there is anything to suggest this engine is WS-15.
The most we can believe is it could be the same engine J-20 is equipped with.

I posted this over in the WS-10 thread but it's probably more relevant here.

True, but maybe it hasn't left the place yet, therefore the tarp or any kind of covering has not been applied. I guest that's why the photographer and his gf took this opportunity to some pics. If you look closely at the pics you can see the break lights is still on and the blue (emergency blinking lights?) lights is still on. Also there is no street traffic lights but a worker with a hard hat on, meaning it's still at a non-moving state being prep for transportation.

For me, J-20 looks like the female boss of one of my (could also be yours) favorate Chinese restaurants: solidly built, sharp, practical, efficient, with a face written with "am ready to WendyDeng you" if you forget to leave tips... so sort of "Lucy Liu XXL". lol. It's all BUSINESS.

T-50 ( just saw the newest pictures) looks like a Russian tennis superstar: thin, tight, and very tight, on top of tightly wrapped in a cocktail party gown, decorated by an uncomfortablely shining neckless and/or piercing... say kinda of "Anna Kournikova". It's all about the CURVE.

F-22, however, looks and behaves like a typical US corporate *****: merticulous biz suit and teeth, fast, furious, MBA type buzzword-speech of "you're fired" with testosterone-loaded fake smiles allover, say...I dunno, just too many names... even those politicians, like Michele Bachmann? It's all about ATTITUDE.

Lol... well that's a new way to compare the big 3 lol... Personally I don't like to personify them but rather compare with other things like weapons or cars.
Say F-22 reminds me more of lamborghinis with their sleek, well cut and methodical looking angles.
T-50's would then be ferraris or maybe porsche -- like you said, curved and seeming far less "intense" and chill.
J-20 on the other hand... looks kind of like a mix of the two, with the angles and constancy (chining, intakes, edge alignment) but also having its fair share of curves (LERX, nose shape, intakes, rear end) leaning more towards F-22. I suppose I dont' know enough about cars to give a motoring equipvalent haha... but maybe the upcoming mclaren?

My comparison, J-20 is a total bad ass would-be-king gangster as EVIL as it can get. (if you know how Chinese fans are found of EVIL looking)

F-22 live to its name, a raptor even from the looking, and the most evil figure BEFORE J-20 shows up.

Chinese fans don't give too much credit to Russian T-50, for it has far less "killing aura" 杀气 as evil-ness requires.
