Surprised no one talked about this article. Isn't this supposed to be what we're interested in?
huzhigeng released so much information, it really does appear he has inside sources, although I really hope that he's right about everything he's said. It's really exciting to hear and I'm really looking forward to seeing 2003 and 2004 rolling out. Also what he's said mentioned that the earliest OIC is 2017, so I guess if we're gonna see 2004 in 2013, it might not be for another while before the J-20 is in full service.
The payload mentioned seemed to say that the J-20 won't carry much more than the Raptor, but rather will have longer legs, since the volume of the fuselage meant it's got bigger capacity for either one thing. Also when he say 3D nozzles, do you guys think it will be stealthy, thus the rear of the aircraft will be redesigned, and thus completing the overall stealth profile?
It seems like it's almost given that the J-20 can be said will surpass F-22 to be even more sophisticated in the overall picture, which makes sense since F-22 is at least a decade old. (it will be a bit of a disappointment if all this time, China can only cook up something just to catch up and not surpass..which will mean the domestic industry is still not quite mature enough to be completely independent and take its own path)

What surprised me was how he said the engine will be on par with the US. Lots of confidence and deductive confirmations and answers.

Lessons learned from being a China watcher. Always wait for a corroborating source, especially for specific information.

I think the 3D nozzles may have significant serrations like the F-35's nozzles but they will still be round, so unless they bring out rectangular nozzles in a future upgrade or variant, this will likely be one of the few sore thumbs with J-20s all aspect VLO.

As for discussing those posts... unfortunately at the end of the day all we can do is speculation, and it might not be too wise to derive too many conclusions. Best to read it and leave it as food for thought but it is the best we have beyond any disclosures from PLAAF officials

Well in my mind a mature J-20 should be able to at least match a mature F-22 in avionics and kinematics. Kind of like how Su-27 was able to match/advance beyond the F-15 it was meant to counter. Lessons learnt by watching others take the first step I imagine.

Actually I believe he said "Even if our turbofan engines are on the same level as Americans, we're still likely to use canards in our design." -- so it doesn't quite mean WS-15 will be "on par," but he certainly does seem to have great confidence in its development and potential.

Indeed. Is he giving a sign that the WS-15 is actually pretty much, done with?

No, he said it should begin flight testing. We all knew that was about the stage it was at. The WS-10 didn't enter mass production until 8 years after flight testing began. WS-15 is a long way off.

What Is This About?

Model? Change Engine? Painted Egde?

What on earth? Actually, I think the circumstances behind the picture (the engine being on a flatbed, the girl posing in front, it being taken at night) is a testament to its authenticity. If you were going to fake this...you wouldnt have put your girlfriend in front of it.

Depends what he means done with :p
But the future for the engine does look bright at this moment, its actual status is another thing.

Maybe it could be part of the ststic test frame.
Also a while ago there were pics of large J-20 models (though not full size) floating around. Those workers build crazy stuff when they're bored. This could even be an exhibition piece of some sort.

That is an interesting picture alright. Who knows for sure when the WS-15 engine will come out? The US develop two different engine types for the current F-35 (for all three variants) at the same time. There's even debate and discussion in Congress about whether to scrap the second engine project or not because of the potential jobs it provided.

Hopefully it won't take that long this time. They had lots of problems with the WS-10, which probably was because of the immaturity of the industry. This time they have more experience.
