Probably just an "Asian thing". The Japanese were thought to be only capable of producing wooden prop-planes until WWII broke out.
^ Can't have put it better myself, I espicially agree with the part about calling J-20 a demonstrator to avoid discussing its capabilities.

Interesting how the canard was flipped completely around. It might just be the lighting, but I'm certain it's not the angle, since views from even further behind the plane don't give the canards the illusion of being forward swept. Must be a testing thing.
If you look a little closer, the canard is only slightly flipped up.
