Nice pic, I believe it is a screen capture of a video.
One long-time Chinese aviation blogger did an analysis of the video and concluded that the J-20 demonstrates lift characteristics on par with the flanker, a medium-swept trapezoidal wing, at low AOA.
This is impressive as the advantage of the canard's lift characteristics usually appears after medium AOA, not at low AOA.
If so, it makes me wonder about the possibility of a carrier-borne J-20.

The rules of engagement had a major impact on US kill rates in Vietnam since they can’t shoot unless target has been visually identified.

Modern aircraft cannon has enough ammo for one target. It is better than nothing, but not by much.
A couple of very short range ''manpads style'' ir missiles could take the place and volume of a gun and probably weight less. A twin or quad FN-6 / FN-16 canister pod or something. With less problem resulting of ammo ejection, gun blast, etc.

While watching this documentary I was thinking the whole time that the J-20 doesn't have a gun. The fact that they ommitted the gun on the J-20 is made out of the presumption that the J-20 would never have to merge with its opponents. But what if they are wrong ? If hypothetically a group of J-20 and F-35 were to merge the J-20 without a gun will be f**ked. They made that mistake decades ago when the early MiG-21 Fishbed didn't have a gun and the American F-4 Phantom pilots didn't train to use their guns. Because they thought they didn't need the gun anymore with the introduction of air to air missile's. And they were wrong. The F-4 Phantoms got hammered over Vietnam and the MiG-21 got hammered over the Middle East by the guns of their opponents. What if they are wrong again and the gun is still needed. When you need it and you don't have it you are in big trouble. Lets hope the new J-35 has a gun.

It's not 1970s missile tech anymore.

J20 can just use its maneuverability advantage, get its nose pointed in the general direction of the F35 and send a PL10.

Guns are nowadays only good for strafing ground targets. J20 is optimized almost only for air combat. Unless they make a strike version based on J20, it would not have a gun.

Regarding this "J-20 now in all theater command" announcement, here's a video:

An interesting fact to point out - he specifically said:
中国第五代战机歼-20已经遍布东南西北中
"Chinese 5th generation fighter J-20 has been deployed everywhere to east, south, west, north and central"

It looks like PLAAF have officially decided to classify J-20 as 5th generation, matching Russian and US classification instead of the old 4th for stealth fighters. I much prefer it this way.
