Great ... and I hope you don't mind a suggestion for an addition: No. 2022 is missing which was most likely flown first in January 2018 ...

J-20A 2022 XXL.jpgJ-20A_2022.jpg

... and then the service entry dates - or in case we don't know for sure - the date whenever we saw a new unit for the first time:

J-20 (AL-31FN or FM)
1. 176th Air Brigade PLAAF Dingxin Flight Test & Training Base on 12 December 2016 (S/N 78x7x)
2. 172nd Air Brigade PLAAF Cangzhou Flight Test & Training Base in February 2018 (S/N 78x3x)
3. 9th Air Brigade at Wuhu Airbase on 13 January 2019 (S/N 62x0x) - ETC

J-20A (WS-10C)

4. 172nd Air Brigade PLAAF Cangzhou Flight Test & Training Base in January 2021 (S/N 78x3x)
5. 1st Air Brigade at Anshan Airbase in April 2021 (if not earlier?) (S/N 61x2x) - NTC
6. 5th Air Brigade at Guilin Airbase in January 2022 (S/N 61x6x) - STC
7. 56th Air Brigade at Zhengzhou Airbase (S/N 66x7x) - CTC
8. a yet unconfirmed AB within the WTC

And finally the J-20 engine testbed - eventually 2021 or 2013 - is undergoing test at CFTE since late 2021.

J-20 TCV testbed - either WS-10B-3 or WS-15.jpg

Concerning J-20s all over the country? What do you think about this:
J-20As allegedly being spotted over or at Chongqing Dazu, which is home of the 97th Air Brigade, WTC.

Is this the alleged rumoured WTC-brigade or just a detachment at an exercise?

Seems like this was just a training exercise over Chongqing.

E3 is not designed with detecting LO in mind so it isn't fair to bash it for that. What I am surprised by however is that only four are stationed in the West Pacific. Previously I thought that USAF dominated in number of AWACs the way it dominates in refueler/other special mission aircraft. Really surprised that PLAAF actually enjoys both qualitative and quantitative advantage in this field.

A lot of focus in this thread and elsewhere about J-20 are on the aircraft itself, numbers, engines, serial numbers, bases etc. With J-20 entering mass production stage, we're entering a new era.

The recent disclosure by the USAF on the close encounter of J-20 with F-35 is quite interesting, particularly the role of AWACS/KJ-500/E-3/E-7 within the greater context of net-centric war in the air around 1st island chain and beyond. Over time, we should also see other force multipliers such as tankers (YU-20) and EW aircraft (J-16D) in patrol and operations. In fact, we have already seen them participating in the air operations around Taiwan recently. In the future, stealth bombers and UAV/UCAVs should all be integrated into the network/operations, if they have not yet.

China has developed very sophisticated C4ISR systems. With increasing availability of various platforms in number and types, we should start to see a lot more complex operations and encounters out there.

I think the overriding theme I got from listening to this interview and other USAF interview is their view that mumt is the future. They expect the manned fighters to be higher tech and non expendable. They look at the unmanned pairing as cheaper and expendable. I would be surprised if plaaf do not look at things the same way. That's why over the past couple of weeks, I have really started looking at what plaaf would employ in similar avenues to increase striking power and to defend against swarming drones. That will be increasingly more important and prevalent.

In order for tankers and AWACS to be effective, they also need to be more survivable by being stealthier and/or more maneuverable and/or faster. The only way to do that is with UAVs. You can make up the size difference with more numbers and lower acquisition cost.

What is the right mix of j20 to advanced ucavs? Would it be 1 to 1? Would it be 2 or 4 to1? Not sure. I would think ucavs would make a larger portion of your fleet as time passes.

There are at least 6 ABs flying J20! Do they all have 24 aircrafts each? Or do some of them just start receiving deliveries now?
