If I interpret Bradley Perett's Aviation Week article mentioned in the J-10 thread correctly, he doesn't think the Air Force will be buying any J-XY, PLAAF has already rejected the plane once and will likely wait for the 6th Gen around 2035 and perhaps build a J-10D in the interim. A preference for long range and high payload suggest the 6th Gen will be a heavy plane maybe with a deeper but still flat-bottomed weapons bay. This approach is also much more budget/life-cycle cost friendly. Another clue maybe the setting up of an export office for the J-XY at this early stage.
The Aviation Week piece is…not very good.

Yeah, that isn't happening. China has laws barring the export of the J-20.
I read that on defence.pk and comments say that the soon is more or less gonna mean years.

With that said the person in question was apparently first to reveal/leak about J-10CP although I still think j-20 is unlikely.
Not before China got their sixth generation fighter. So in a long time but if it does, it will still be an awesome fighter for Pakistan.

Regarding export of J-20 to Pakistan.

I don't think Pakistan will pursue this option for the time being anyway unless India nears a 5th gen platform. The fastest they can get it is F-35s, which would mean alot of changes to their existing infrastructure to keep it away from Russian hardware, imagine UAE couldn't agree to those strict conditions. Next is their own development, I don't think they'll have anything credibly operational in next 15 years and they re pursuing something in same wt class as f-31, which would be alot more mature platform than J-20. Apart from that, there is also news of PAF working with TAI platform, so tbh, PAF has more credible options than InAF regarding 5th gens.

And again, Pakistan as a policy will not introduce 5th gen unless India does so.

Frankly speaking in 15 years, a credible export oriented j-20 variant would be more than good enough to counter any Indian 5th gen option locally developed.

Lol you think India will have an indigenous 5th gen in 15 years?

I think they may have some type of prototype. I know it's optimistic given it's been what almost 40 years and work still ongoing for LCA, but no harm to be prepared. :)
it took India 40 years to produce 40 tejas. 1 for each year. In 15 years they will have 15 HAL AMCA

I do not think Pakistan will get J20s before India gets 5th gens, which is probably 20 years away. China's policy is always to maintain the military balance between Pakistan and India so as to prevent an arms race while also preventing India from being dominant. Giving J20s to Pakistan would change the balance immesely, possibly forcing India to move closer to the west and attempt to purchase F35s
