The PLA Fifth Brigade, which started deploying the J20 at the end of last year, does not understand why the PLA should deploy these advanced fighter jets such as the J20 and J10C in Guilin, Guangxi Province.
Don't forget that threats can also come from SCS.
Why not put these fighter jets in Guangdong province? The range of the J-10C is not enough. Previously, the brigade only had the J-10C, not the J-20.
J10 has combat radius of 1,240km or 2,600km with mid-air refueling according to AVIC on J10CE. The map below with radius of 1,240km show the reach of J10. Also no to forget that any aircraft from remote inland airfield can always land on a forward airfield near the cosat for refuel or even re-armed.I'm looking at the map below, and the three airbases in Guangdong already have J-10C, J-11A and J-16s assigned. Plus those airbases look really close to the coast.
In Southern Theatre Command, Guilin looks like next airbase where the existing J-aircraft don't have the range to reach Taiwan.
See the map below with the locations of air units in China. It's at the bottom of the post.
