Is there really a rationale for a WS-10TVC J-20? WS-15 could be ready before 2025.
Loss of thrust is not worth it for an older engine.

The only way I see some kind of worth, is working on flight control software. Still paremeter will change with WS-15 but they can prepare a base so it can be fielded faster ?Loss of thrust is not worth it for an older engine.
As I mentioned before, somebody said the new variants of WS-10 had a nice performance, even already met the most of requirements of WS-15. So Ws-15 had to redesign and meet a high level.Loss of thrust is not worth it for an older engine.
Why would they test WS-10 with only one side?

It could be an old images pre-2017 and leaked only now.
It could technically be a ps photo. I mean if we grasp at straws anything is possible.
I have the same question too. J-10 TVC has been proven to be reliable enough for a single engine aircraft, so using two WS-10TVC on a J-20 should not be more riskier than working on J-10TVC in its equivalent R&D phase. Why would they test WS-10 with only one side?

From the perspective of writing baseline TVC control software, what ever outcome from the mixed engine arrangement must be very different from the arrangement of two engine of same type because the software is deeply coupled to engine performance and characteristics.
Thirdly, the nozzle looks the same as the WS-10 TVC, but that is no proof of anything. Unless this "someone" is a person from CAC R&D team.
The rumors about the redesign of WS-15 are old. If it went back to the redesign stage not a long time ago, we would see WS-15 at J-20 in the 2030s.As I mentioned before, somebody said the new variants of WS-10 had a nice performance, even already met the most of requirements of WS-15.
