Well it depends entirely on probabilities and risk tolerance.
China is not tolerant to that kind of risk. Pretty much nobody is. J-20 is the only stealth fighter in service in the world that has never crashed and it's not because China likes to take crazy risks.

We will generally see the engine mounted as 1 of 4 on something like the Y-20/IL-76. Then as one of 2 on a J-11 if it can accept it. If not, then 1 of 2 on a primer J-20. After that, if all goes well, we will see it double-mounted onto single seat primer J-20s before coming into service. And there should be very significant periods of time between each step obviously for the testing, data collection, and engineering improvements.

President Xi himself recently said that China needs to accelerate weapons development.

We know WS-15 could be used, so maybe we should ask why it shouldn’t be WS-15?

Because we've been tracking WS-15s development very carefully over the last 10 years, and there are none of the indicators we would expect if the J-20S prototype was using WS-15, especially as recent rumours have only suggested that WS-15 has possibly begun flight testing on a J-20 airframe earlier this year. Flying a new prototype of a new J-20S variant, using new engines, would be massively inconsistent with PLA practice and caution for testing new aircraft and new engines.

So no, there is absolutely no reasonable basis at this point in time to entertain the idea that J-20S may be using WS-15.

It's not even a question of "well maybe" -- it's just a plain and simple "no, stop".
