If you are looking at how much difficult US Is having with even putting APG-85 on F-35, PLA's advantage here is going to be pretty large for a few years.

To be fair, at this point it really seems to be LM/F-35 problem, not necessarily larger US problem. Esp. after new GAO report.
It may sound highly ironic, but at this point, US tech level at large probably shouldn't be judged by F-35.

Everything, but it's a interconnected (and intercontinental) clusterfuck.
Say, US already deploys fighter GaN radars. Just elsewhere, and not even in a high priority program. Just under different and more sensible management.

Also, keep in mind that the main radar has a lot of functionalities beside just scanning the other side. It should be the primary emitter for electronic attack and its receivers and filters can be use to pick up emissions from the other side. Same with data-linking and such. So, I wouldn't be too hang up on the search range.

Especially since given the prominence of J-16D in all these formation, it's likely that J-20A is invisible to enemy radar and turning on emissions would only give away its positioning to enemy ESM. They can save the active radar to the AWACS.

At this point I am not sure if anything anymore. China has kept so many things under wraps so well for the past half a decade that even this forum’s understanding of present day PLA capabilities is probably behind by two or three years. Closing the military forums was a crappy thing to do but it helped them keep operational secrecy on so many programs and advancements.

Just imagine if China had gotten involved in a major conflict before this parade and then suddenly the first time people seeing these hardwares are on the battlefield.

yes but they said multirole for the normal J-20 as well
