J-20 5th Gen Fighter Thread VIII

They claim J-20A's radar was designed for combat against F-35 Blk IV.

I made my own calculations last year for Kaan and in that respect J-20 potential radar ranges and came to some interesting conclusions:

450 km @ 1m2 RCS
245 km @ 0.1m2 RCS
143 km @ 0.01m2 RCS
80 km @ 0.001m2 RCS
46 km @ 0.0001m2 RCS

Kaan (and J-20) could detect other 5th generation fighters at the same ranges as 4th gen fighters are detecting other 4th gen fighters.

For China it is usually 3-5 m^2.
If baseline is 5m2 at 250km (KLJ-7A does 170km) it would mean at least 500km vs 5m2. Or 100+km vs 0.005km which would be in line of the calculations I made last year.

It'd be nice to have some hints about performance vs those sets of targets which are usually much more challenging for high frequency fighter radars than fighter sized/shaped objects, F-35s included.

They hinted that it is designed with F-35 block 4’s radar upgrade in mind. So whatever Lockheed put on the marketing brochure, increase by 10 or 20 percent.

Turkish radars are that good? Have they achieved any breakthroughs that would allow them to surpass the performance of Western radars and reach the same level performance as the latest Chinese radars?

I think everyone has moved to GaN which will be a headache for fifth gen, which don’t have true all aspect stealth to start with due to the use of vertical slabs among other things. You are going to require collaboration of physical stealth and EW to make platforms survivable.

I was under the impression that the latest Chinese radars have achieved a multiple-fold performance increase over baseline first generation GaN radars?

I think you are right. But I don’t think it will be four digit in any case. There is still the curvature of the earth to account for.
I mean, I posted the stuff about Gan-on-Sic radar a couple of month ago. it is said to be 3x for the original J-20 radar.

China's typical RCS target is 3m^2, but I still don't think the exactly number matter all that much, since there is so much involved.

At this point I am not sure if anything anymore. China has kept so many things under wraps so well for the past half a decade that even this forum’s understanding of present day PLA capabilities is probably behind by two or three years. Closing the military forums was a crappy thing to do but it helped them keep operational secrecy on so many programs and advancements.
