Alongside the majestic photo above is this mention by Cute Orca on Weibo:
Jia You!
Numbers are reported to be between 60-100 depending the source you are reading, but my point still is, where are they all?
The last confirmed J-20 unit was the 8th Brigade in October 2022 and similar for J-10C production, we heard lots of rumours, it would have been transferred to GAIC but so far nothing conclusive.
PLA OPSEC at its best again?!
Well, gotta overmatch the number of F-22s and F-35s in USAF, USN, JMSDF, JASDF, RKAF. And why shouldn't China aim for that for long term goal before 6th gen production? It has several times the population, almost the same landmass and arguably better energy and raw resource access along with greater strategic stockpiles of said resources (shock - Peter Zeihan is actually wrong about China on energy**).
**China has direct secure and friendly land routes to Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraq. China has a capable navy to secure sea routes. Blocking access is basically declaration of war. China has one of the world's largest deposits of coal and by FAR the largest stockpile of iron ore (that's not in the ground) and processed material. It also has more nuclear power projects in construction than rest of world is constructing combined. It has in operation more renewable energy sources than most and has over 50 nuclear reactors in close to 20 power stations.
It's only a question of whether it is a suitable use of resources to mass produce J-20s at this rate. Clearly whatever the rate is, is what ought to be based on calculations done by those with far more information than we do.
