Overall the actual remarks manage to say a lot which beats around the bush about J-20 without actually talking about J-20 at all, either by deliberate word choice or by their own unconscious thought process.

As for the tech being stolen, that is incorrect, but I have been advised on good authority that there are aspects of very early J-20 LRIP where some subsystems were influenced by US systems of the time though this is no longer the case. So at best it can be considered a massive exaggeration.

So overall, this is the war zone managing to write an article about J-20 with a rather provocative title despite the actual quoted content not saying much about J-20's capabilities itself.

Funny thing is that a Global Times editor can easily twist the exact same words into something like "USAF requires backing from 20 nation's air forces to feel comfortable about taking on the J-20".

Yeah, and if they did that then amusingly they'd be as flawed in using that logic in a reverse fashion as well.

This entire article/episode just feels like a comedy of errors.

Why is it that when articles like this comes out The Drive, Business Insider, and Popular Mechanics play deaf?

Aviation experts speculate that the slender pods contain infrared search-and-track systems (IRST) and may have other sensors, as well. A former Lockheed program official has previously told Air & Space Forces Magazine that there is insufficient “real estate” within the F-22’s fuselage to host an IRST, an alternative method of detecting an adversary aircraft built with low radar cross section, like China’s J-20 fighter.
“Upgrading the Block 20s to a combat configuration is cost-prohibitive and very time intensive,” Moore testified. “Based on the most advanced weapons that an F-22 Block 20 can carry now, it is not competitive with the [Shenyang] J-20, with the most advanced weapons the Chinese can put on it.

“But we notice that they are flying it pretty well. We recently had – I wouldn’t call it an engagement – where we got relatively close to the J-20s along with our F-35s in the East China Sea, and we’re relatively impressed with the command and control associated with the J-20.

When it gets airborne, those sensors that we rely on with the E-3 aren't really capable in the 21st century fight, especially against a platform like the [Chengdu] J-20 or something similar to that. It just can't see those platforms far enough out to be able to provide an advantage to the shooters.

They’ve also been unconstrained by culture in terms of what I’m going to call a stovepipe interest across services in the modernizations that they’ve done. They’ve done some very creative things, innovative from the operational side as well as innovative technically.

One of them that we get—we hear a lot of conversation about is hypersonics. They’ve invested fairly aggressively in hypersonics. They’ve done some other things to integrate their forces so that they work well together.

Now, all of this is totally unproven—your point earlier about how, you know, the Chinese military hasn’t been in a conflict for a very long time. They’ve, certainly, not tested these kinds of capabilities in a conflict at any scale or at all. So there are a lot of unknowns and they should be very aware of that. They should be very wary of the uncertainty.

There’s also a lot of uncertainty about our capabilities. We have a lot of capabilities we don’t advertise. So they may be taking the lesson that you’re concerned about. Hopefully, they’re learning the lessons that I would—I think are more valid that we’d prefer them to learn.
I thought the Chinese were just mindless automatons who only copy superior Western technology and botch them? What's going on here?

Off topic but I feel like everyone in the USA is getting forced into a narrative line. Biden admin was ultra focused on generating victorious headlines. And it is not just about China. We know Biden lied several times about the US economy publicly.

"They [Taiwan] have to have systems to be able to [prevent] the J-20… By the way, the J-20 is limited in my view to Taiwan. What is a major threat is the other aircraft that can come in and drop, draw their weapons on Taiwan, you know like their

So, you know, if I was Taiwan, I wouldn't be overly concerned with the J-20 at this point… they need to be concerned about it, but there's a lot of other things that they also need to defend themselves against to be that tough target we spoke about earlier." That is quite the statement as Taiwan’s most advanced fighter

for the other fighters in its inventory. The island’s ever-evolving ground and sea-based integrated air defenses are also a factor here.

Look at the dishonest “observation” by the Drive writer here. Anyone with decent reading comprehension skills can see that the point Wilsbach makes is that an air to air fighter like the J-20, regardless of sophistication, will not be as big of a threat as bombers/fighter bombers that could wreck ground based assets, infrastructure, ships, etc. It is like me telling the average The Drive commenter — “don’t worry about how your hair looks, you need to change your adult diapers first so you don’t smell so bad”. Instead the writer phrased it like the F-16V has a chance at defeating the J-20, and of course the knuckle-draggers either can’t or pretend not to understand it.

Also lmao at the Drive comment section in which some imbecile wrote that “it is great to humiliate China like this”? Excuse me? To humiliate China would be to get 6:1 kills against the J-20 with the F-35 despite being outnumbered. What we see here is classic mouth cannon, the stuff Jai Bharat military gets away with.
