I’ve heard some claims that the J-20A with WS-15 has bigger nacelles because the engine is larger, but I don’t quite see it, from available photos the nacelles look to be the same, or not noticeably larger.
Thats what I meant. What goes in WS-15 today might be 2021's best available tech. We likely have better available tech today, just not proven yet.Depends what one means by "latest tech." Lastest (i.e. experimental tech, e.g. HPT CMC rotors, fully 3D printed combustion chamber, etc.) tech? Then I agree.
However, personally I'm leaning towards that the first operational WS-15 blocks will use latest available tech. This means things like the 4th (or even later) generation blades, and even tentative, i.e. partial applications of the actual latest tech, perhaps CMC stators/vanes.
He could've just held on to the photo for a while.
He's one of those guys who likes to downplay the progress of the Chinese aviation industry, going as far as making stuff up.
It is certainly possible that he could've just held onto this, and just released it two months ago as "proof" that WS-15 will never use TVC, per his caption. He then proceeded to praise (a bit too exaggerated even) the benefits of TVC and ignore the circumstantial nuances in this. That along with saying WS-15 still uses relatively outdated materials to support his belief that China is very behind in utilizing TVC technology and just turbofan engines in general.
Truly odd.
The image was first posted two months ago on that account, but it doesn't mean the photo was taken two months ago.
Regardless of when the photo was first posted online, we have no way of knowing when it was first actually photographed.
Agreed, but I thought I read somewhere the image was also taken at that time!
Despite rumors to the contrary looks like it is rocking WS-15 as well.
TVC is not that useful on the J-20 because it has the canards. But on other aircraft designs it can still be useful.TVC is pretty much dead. The chief designer basically scoffed at it in that video.
I doubt any subsequnt Chinese aircraft will use it either. It just have very little room in Chinese doctrine.TVC is not that useful on the J-20 because it has the canards. But on other aircraft designs it can still be useful.
6th gen fighter may use TVC to compensate for lack of vertical control surfaces and canards.I doubt any subsequnt Chinese aircraft will use it either. It just have very little room in Chinese doctrine.
