So, a two-seater?

The "5.5 generation" claim is also one of the rumors made by one of the Pakistani "big shrimps" on PDF.

But, how credible is this guy?

Here is the exact quote from this fellow:
J-20A在今年,将会有更重大的变化和表现,未来不久,将会进化成为世界上独一无二的四代(半)多用途战斗机!
Translation: "This year, the J-20A will have more profound changes and performance, and in the near future, will evolve into the world's only fourth (and a half) generation multirole fighter!"

A possibly-related rumor from Pakistani insider messiach, who supposedly works with CAC.
No. J-20 will still see significant development. We might perhaps see an entirely new PLAAF fighter jet.

View attachment 50703 So far I have never noticed that the fixed front part of the J-20's vertical stabilizer is latticed or meshed! At least for the 201x prototypes.

I hadn't either, but that is an intake for cooling the aft mounted electronics, there are three screws on the outboard and likely the same number on the other side so that it can be removed for service... the screws are dark colored as opposed to the lighter colored rivets that hold the frame work to the screen.

Nobody has put forth any proposals that would honestly constitute what would be considered a quantum leap from 5 Gen to 5.5 Gen, so its likely semantics..... I mean when the J-20 actually gets the WS-15, possibly OVT, and more sensor fusion?? it would be good marketing to call that 5.5 or from Chinese perspective 4.5, as the J-20 itself will see a quantum leap in performance from the initial prototypes powered by the Russian AL-31FN's or even the WS-10s......

The above discussion about J-20 sub-sonic and super-sonic maneuverability, put forth by another poster, ignores the fact that if you have good to great subsonic and supersonic maneuverability, and outstanding thrust that the WS-15 would bring, and if the WS-15 also incorporates OVT, you are able to manage your energy and balance any trade offs by moving the throttles to the forward stops...

Awesome thrust, with thrust vectoring is a winner, and definitely improves super-sonic maneuverability as well,,, we have only to look at the F-22 to see what Dr. Song anticipated for the J-20, and Yang Wei has brought that vision forward into a very honest airplane, that has the potential to be an awesome airplane, but we shall see...... going forward.

I fully expect the Chinese to move the ball down the field, they are actively pushing the J-20 performance forward with each engineering change, the WS-15 is the most important of those changes that we have been told to expect....

5.5 isn't a quantum leap, it represents more an increased capacity factor wherein 5.5th gen, like 4.5th gen, is generally superior to its predecessor. Take, say, a Eurofighter vs a F-18A. In this case, the Eurofighter has AESA, as well as superior sustained and instantaneous turn rates, such that the older Hornet is generally inferior to the Eurofighter. However, the F/A-18E has AESA as well, and can match the Eurofighter BVR.

A generation gap typically implies significant, at least 2:1, superiority over the previous generation. A half-generation gap just implies general superiority.

According to an eyewitness, two J-20s were flown to a brigade in the ETC around noon today.

The rumours of 9th Brigade receiving J-20s have more and more credibility.

I'd assume the eyewitnesses were located at the destination rather than at Chengdu, otherwise they wouldn't be able to tell they were received at an ETC brigade.

That said the rumours of the 9th brigade receiving J-20s go back to early last year, so I wonder how many/if any J-20 deliveries had been missed so far.

Is the Top81-Forum available again?? At least I still can't access the old site.... do you have the link?

Thanks in advance,
