Part optical illusion, part angle but I just can't believe how large that bird is. I think the relative size of the canopy throws it off a lot. It's fairly small and the line is not seamless with the fuselage.

Heh!, Heh!, Heh, we have another thread for talk like that, but yes, the canopy does appear small because of the distortion. Probably because the lense has a longer focal length and the angle??

but she's still smaller than the SR-71?? right???

Similar to this scene ....

Now that is a beautiful airplane, and you're right latenlazy, the wide angle lense would be the correct answer, a longer lens would tend to compress the image!

This is a much better image at approx. similar angles and there is very little distortion,,, and I love that paint, the border around the vertical stabilizers tends to make them look much smaller than they are, which is entirely intentional, hopefully they will appear to disappear in the air.

Probably won't be LRIP anymore considering that they've officially entered service way earlier this year.

actually Low Rate Initial Production is a "descriptive term", the F-35 hasn't yet launched into "Standard Rate Production", so not so much a developmental milestone? as a statement about production rate...

By the way ... is this a new bird? Since it is the one with the brown stuff on the intake.
