I think it's more than just painted vs. unpainted. We've seen the J-20 having two different nozzles on the same plane at the same time, it's unlikely that they'd pain only one nozzle.
Pretty sure that's just due to .

The debut of the PLA’s J-20 stealth fighter at the Zhuhai Air Show has attracted attention from Taiwan, among others. Feng Shih-kuan, head of Taiwan’s local defense authority, said he is confident that Taiwan’s F-16v fighter can rival the J-20.
“Compared with the J-20, do we have confidence in our upgraded F-16s,” said Taiwan’s defence minister.
Taiwan plans to buy F-16V fighters from the United States to upgrade its existing F-16 fleet by 2022.
In a program aired on CCTV on Nov. 4, senior colonel Fang Bing, a professor at NationalDefense University, said Feng’s remarks “are a joke.”
“Any improvement of the F-16 fighter is at most a 3.5-generation fighter, while the J-20 isa typical fourth-generation fighter. By American and Russian standards, it is a fifth-generation fighter, so there is a huge gap between them,” Fang said, adding that in a duelwith the J-20, the F-16v would have no chance.
According to Fang, the debut of the J-20 makes it the third type of fourth-generationfighter to enter active service, following the American F-22 and F-35.

I always knew the Taiwan Green leadership were lunatics, just like their mindless worshipers, but until now, I didn't know they were blind too. Here's proof they're indeed deaf, blind, and stupid; which makes them even more dangerous to world peace.

Maybe Air Force chiefs aren't do well informed after all
Well, a Chinese colonel called him out on it and they can't both be well-informed. If 1 out of 2 has to be wrong, do you fancy it might be the "well-informed" AF chief who couldn't tell the difference between J-20 and J-31? Or should be take his word on that issue too, cus it would be "foolish" for us to question him on jet identity, since he's an AF chief?I bet you guys would love to see the Eng in the J-20, try to see if he could "turn inside of me" in the F-22??? I think I could take you Eng!
As the Eng has said, this bird has an outstanding "pitch transition", even without OVT!
To me there is "nothing" quite as kool as these birds disappearing in a "vapor burst", I can't wait until we see the J-20 get "down and dirty", I would like to see it on the deck in a tail chase with an F-22.
For all you characters who claim to be able to make an objective comparison, with-out making a comparison, I know you would love to see that too ! LOL
Air Force Chiefs are very well informed, the upgraded F-16V will function much like our upgraded F-15s and will no doubt be networking with home team F-22s and F-35s....
People are making a number of assumptions that the J-20 will an equivalent with the F-22 or F-35. As good as the J-20 is, it will no doubt have vulnerabilities which can and will be exploited.
The reticence of the US to "arm up Taiwan" has been out of respect to China and their "sensitivities", we wish to not ignite any further paranoia, and while we respect their sovereign territory, we will defend our allies....
So the Taiwanese Air Force Chief is very confident that the US will keep our promises to be there, and he has every reason to confident in these up-graded F-16s.
For Sino Defense forum members to discredit this trust is extremely foolish and takes your Sino Defense professional credentials back several notches when you presume to know more than these Air Force Chiefs...
they may misspeak on the nomenclature, but they are part of a very well organized strategic picture, as they will be called upon to withstand a numerically superior force until the calvary arrives!
underestimate their commitment at your own peril.
