Could just be an illusion, the inlets were also moved forward since 2011 or 2002.

Not sure what You mean but from 2001&2002 the intakes were changed indeed a bit, but IMO not to their general position, more on the upper surface. For the later 201x-aircrfats they are however all the same ...

If you compare the latest prototype to the first prototype, the intakes are closer to the nosecone, whereas in the first prototype it's as though the inlets were cut off. If you do a measurement on the distance between the end of the radome to the start of the intakes / inlets, you'll see what I mean.

In order to do a comparison this way, the angle of the camera shot must be same for the 2 pictures. For example, if the camera shot was taken from further towards the aft of J-20, the air inlet would seem to have moved closer to the nose cone than the case if the camera shot was taken from further towards the front of the aircraft, in which case the air inlet would seem to have moved further away from the nose cone.

IMO these not such a big change - if ever ... IMO the only change for the intakes is that it now drops a bit down on the front ...

The second picture posted by Deino is a good example of what I was trying to explain. See how the air inlet is now seem to be farther away from the nose cone compared to the other pictures. This is a result of the picture shot being taken towards the front of the J-20, as evidenced by the vertical stabilizer in the background now partly visible from behind the foreground vertical stabilizer .

These sort of comparisons are very hard to make with photos unless you are sure that all the photos are 1:1 in scale precisely. Just a very slight difference in scale can cause distortions in the comparison.

Here below is another comparison between 2001 vs 2011. Here it seems that 2011 is slightly larger than 2001.

The nose to the engines are more or less in line. It's the enlarged tail stings on the 2011 that makes it longer overall.
