From what I know is that while the AIM-120 AMRAAM has a diameter of 180mm, the PL-12 has 203mm. However, while the PL-12 has a range of only 70km (more recent versions possibly have 100), the newest AIM-120D has a range of 180km. So clearly there is something terribly outdated regarding the Chinese BVRAAMs.

That still doesn't explain your claim that the Chinese will have lesser missiles in the J-20. Plus frankly speaking, it was 7 inch, compare to 8 inch, so it really doesn't matter that much. Do note that J-20 is a bigger aircraft and from what we know, the weapon bay might even be bigger.

I know it is vastly OT, so I will only write briefly about it. PL-12/ SD-10A was the basic of the PL-12 family, like the AIM-120 (which originally only had 55-75km range). There are reports of PL-12A, PL-12B right up to PL-12D missiles in various developement and deployment status (not too sure about this one though, I have read it in wikipedia, so you can believe what you want). And I have this feeling that SD-10 series of missiles are for export only so the Chinese logically will not give you the best of what they already have.

Do you see how missiles in F-22 are packed more tightly than that of J-20? Maybe the J-20's internal weapons bay needs to be re-designed.

Consider the maximum diameter with drifts for the weapons not only the body, it is very just for put a weapon in a Stealth Fighter weapons bay, i remember a member have do a picture with drawing/steps only 2 AAM by bay but it appears that a third could almost go inside.

Exist measurements for F-22 and J-20 main weapons bay ?

If you look at the J-20 weapons bay (which need I remind everyone is from the earlier prototypes), you can make out a pair of holes (possible hardpoint attachments?) between those two missiles.

The doors are wider since we've seen the pics of the weapons bay open. I don't know if that translates to more room.
