Please post some sources on the PAK-FA, to my knowledge the structural issues were primarily with the first Pro-to-type- 01 ?? and in all honesty the Russians "try" to break their aircraft in testing, they do not mess around, and we have not witnessed any of that type of flight testing with the J-20. Not saying it hasn't happened, but we sure haven't seen "any" strenuous maneuvering?? we have seen PAK-FA flying a fairly standard airshow routine, so we really don't know how they stack up in all honesty?
I gonna kill my stupid cellphone!!! I typed hundreds of words to analysis why I suppose PAK-FA would have some trouble in structure, and my phone fell blackout in a sudden saying it is overheat. - REMOVED - My browser blew up with everything I wrote.

At least I saved the article digged out from news 3-4 years ago.

Old Article said:
The first two prototypes have problems, in Aug, 2011, cracks were reportedly discovered in the load-bearing structure of the first prototype, T-50-1. The aircraft was being prepared for high angle-of-attack test flights and was fitted with a spin recovery parachute in the aft fuselage. Although not officially confirmed, T-50-1 has not been seen since last Aug. and flight testing with the aircraft is believed to have ceased.

The second prototype T-50-2, is currently flying with what appear to be vertical fins(marked with the number 051) previously fitted to T-50-1. Structural problems encountered so early in the trials, and before the aircraft has achieved high g-loads, show a requirement to improve the T-50’s construction.

Mikhail Pogosyan recently said:” the fourth aircraft will fly in 2012”, but was less specific as to when. He is now sounding much more cautious about the fourth aircraft maiden flight compared with last year when he announced it would take place before the end of 2012.
But Pogosyan’s apparent caution may prove to be supposition because major structural changes are being implemented in the fourth aircraft after the discovery of the problems in T-50-1. It is also of note that various various strengthening overlays appeared on the tail planes of T-50-1 and T-50-2 and now also T-50-3.

The Commander-in-chief of the Russia-Air-Force, Alexander Zelin, remains optimistic. In a statement made to the Russia RIA Novosti news agency in mid-Feb., he said that fourteen T-50 aircraft will be complete by 2015. The three existing prototypes would be joined by a further three, and a batch of pre-production aircraft would be made during 2016-2020.

I am too upset and exhausted to recover the relics of my article.

I have confidence on J-20's structural strength not only because it looks thick and solid. When the designer put 6 adjustable aerodynamic wings on a plane, it should have a frame which deserve the super maneuverability they brought.

Phoenix_Rising, you are new to SD. READ THE RULES.

You need to source (link or give the Name, who published it, and date of the article) when you post stuff like this on SD.

Otherwise it is unsourced and we can not legitimize it in the least.

i must say, the size of the different colored tip of tail booms and the angled cutout does seem peculiar. if itnis just ram why not cover a larger area and why make it angled? if putting passive sensors inside - one wouldnt need nearly as huge cutout. i guess it is possible there are both passive and acitve arrays in each of the booms, covering the rear hemisphere...

I think maybe like how the T-50 is advertised they will have multiple radars around the plane?
