Interesting. His figures for wingspan and wing area are roughly around the ones I did a while back.

Yeah, I'm glad he at least got that part right.

And can you edit your post to not include the whole article in your quote? Super disappointing to see a massive quote but a one sentence response :(

Would not surprise me if the dimensions came from someone's work here tbh.

I'm more interested in where he got the weight and fuel figures from.

Did he just lick a finger and stick it in the air?

Could have consulted with some engineers about weight ranges...

EDIT: Not sure Sweetman got it right on the weapons bay size. I think he misunderstood bigger missiles to be a smaller bay, when in fact the J-20's bay is about the size of the F-22's, and maybe slightly bigger.

He had someone make a CAD drawing based on the known measurements. That gives you volume. Then extrapolate based on know percentage value of other 5th generation fighters. Educated guess, but still guessing.

Four missiles in the bay might be PL-21s, which are a lot bigger than an AMRAAM or PL-12.

Interestingly, that poster in Zhuhai 2014 also shows four ramjet missiles (AA?).

Well that part of sweetman's article obviously comes from the photos of 2002's weapons bay showing a PL-15 (PL-12 with smaller fins) and seemingly only able to hold four.
However I am half hoping, half expecting, 2011 and 2012 to have a slightly wider bay. Eyeballing 2002's bay, I think it wouldn't take much for six PL-15s to fit in ala AMRAAMs in F-22. Nor do I think PLAAF would be entirely content with less missiles on their air superiority fighter than F-22.

Or maybe they're working on slightly smaller missiles.
