No it means 1400 pounds per inch is much greater than the 1400 pounds per feet. There's 12 inches in a foot, so therefore the comparison in feet would be: 16,800 pounds per feet > 1400 pounds per feet

See the difference?

Yes, that's correct. I was pointing out the error in the statement:

and he said you guys were try to put 1400 ft pounds in this tank, and it call for 1400 "inch" pounds,

Edit: Btw, the calculation should be: 1400 pounds per sq. inch = 1400 X 144 pounds / sq. feet.

Actually divide the 1400 in lbs by 12 and you come up with 116.66 foot pounds, so we exceeded the operating pressure about 5 times, overengineered, yes, but all the flutes pressed into the tank were bulged outward, rather than inward, allowing the pressure to drop at least a little... Most aircraft structures exceed the design load limit by 50%, some by 100%. The tank was not visibly deformed during our misadventure, but it certainly was Monday morning?????

Pressure is always measured in per unit square. So, I'm guessing the 2 scales were in Pound Per Square Inch (PSI) and kilopound per square foot (kip/sq. foot, according to google :)).

So, kip/sq. foot = 1000 pound per sq. foot = 1000/144 pound per sq. inch = 6.94 PSI, which means the exceeded pressure was 6.94 times. But I think there would be leaks before the pressure would even reach way before that point.

It's not over engineered, it's required specification for pressurized tanks. If the tank is near operation pressure and hit by something, the tank the point of contact momentary exceeds the operation pressure by three to five folds.
It is the same with subs with an actual crush depth three times the actual operation depth.

Well, we certainly proved that theory with field testing to destruction, just glad you are right on the money here?? LOL

Well, since we haven't had any new stuff exciting to discuss, let's see how others think about the J-20:

"The thing is on the war front in Bharatiya Subcontinent (not american propaganda of South Asia for White House project 'Breaking India') the biggest 4 most potent jets we'll face be in this order:

1.) Su-35 chinese
2.) Su-30 mkk
3.) F-16
4.) J-20 (last and least dangerous)"

:D and more:

"given our threat scenario, there is no dire necessity of pak-fa.

jsf and f22 to land with pakies is way far fetched.

chinese ones might, but we can easily handle with amca (perhaps with help from japan and france/with ge engines)."

:D Granted, what the second big shrimp was referring to may be the J-31/21...

Is there anyone here who could relay such assessment of the Chinese crap to someone in 601 and 611, so that they get pissed off enough to release more stuff? :D:D:D

Or we could...y'know ignore them like we always do?

Hey, my goal is to get 611 and 601 to leak more stuff, OK? But really and seriously, I do hope, just like everybody here, that they will start to release news on such development on a regular basis and from official channels. We, the Chinese people, deserve to enjoy whatever progress we're making! And what's there to hide anyway? We know war is not going to happen anytime soon or maybe never. These are just toys to brag with...

All right, I admit I'm sick. I'm sick in that I just can't help going to BR from time to time. Do I go there to get pissed, or to feel good, or just to get a kick out of their misery? I need to see a doctor... :p

Hey, you're ok. I get disgusted too.
