They may well have static test aircraft which we are not seeing rolled out and flying. My guess is that there are others.If it is eight all together then the plan has a problem since you count the airframes used for static stress test as well.

Not serial production. They might be building a batch of them.I took a look at the sources and they seem to be fairly trustworthy.
Editted: looks like they've started a serial production of J-20 prototypes. No. 2014 should be out this year.
Do we know why they skipped 2003-2010? Would these be static testbeds?
