Anyway ... since I will leave to the summer-holydays tomorrow, I'm almost sure that something spectacular will happen within these three weeks.

Wow...we won't hear from you for 3 weeks? Anyway, have fun and stay safe.:)

Yes, You are correct my friend ! I will be off-line for three weeks and I promised my family to stay away from the PS for that time. As such the guys at CAC should catch this opportunity and roll-out and fly not only '2013' and '2014' but also the first J-10B-serials + unit-numbers, the Soaring Dragon UAV ... and the same goes for SAC with the second J-31 (or J-35 as it might be called), for XAC with the third Y-20 and maybe more JH-7B! ;);)

Regarding '2013' ... could it be that this is already the mentioned airframe (in the hangar behind) ??:confused:

Anyway ... tomorrow I will again take a look here but then take care and keep an open eye on all new projects.

Hmmm. The rumour about 2013 flying with a Chinese engine is odd. Are they going to equip a prototype with the Taihang, because I'm reasonably confident that if the WS-15 were ready we would have heard something.

Alternatively, after reading the leak, if they're only installing one engine, they could be trying to expedite the WS-15's testing even as they're doing endurance tests. That would be a highly risky move though.

The higher the risks...the higher the rewards will be and the higher chances to catch and fix small problems as the WS-15 continues to develop.

As you are one of my favorite military forum poster online, I will miss reading your always objective and informative posts for the next few weeks. But enjoy your time off, hopefully there will be pics of 2013 and 2014 with a new engine when you come back. :)

Basically, two more J-20s will come out soon - with '2013' almost or already rolled-out and '2014' in final assembly, with the 2013 flying with a Chinese engine.

Sounds indeed interesting, but to admit IMO it sound too good to be true.

Even if I too agree that '2013' is not far away, I cannot believe - or would be very much surprised - that / if yet another prototype will be ready so soon. And I even more have my doubts that it will be powered by a Chinese engine.

Anyway ... since I will leave to the summer-holydays tomorrow, I'm almost sure that something spectacular will happen within these three weeks.

I took a look at the sources and they seem to be fairly trustworthy.

Editted: looks like they've started a serial production of J-20 prototypes. No. 2014 should be out this year.

I guess what I read a couple weeks ago on the Chinese boards might be true. There were a couple threads talking about there will be six total J-20s soon. I can remember when everyone was waiting to see two J-10s flying together in one pic.

Actually that makes quite a lot of sense, with the long period since 2002 and the introduction of 2011, it is likely they were building a small batch of pre-production prototypes, that makes lots of sense, I hope that's true for you guys, I know how excited I would be to see four new top-line fighter prototypes...

Why would they need to produce many prototypes at roughly the same time? I thought the principle of having a prototype is to improve the next prototype based on the findings of the previous prototype? no?

Once a design has been validated they need to make a series of pre-production prototypes, in part to quickly explore every use case and scenario, in part to help test and develop manufacturing process, and in part to divide up testing of subsystems. This stage is usually indicative of the design being frozen, unless something critical shows up in testing. I suspect we will eventually see some changes to things like surface finish or panel geometry, but otherwise we shouldn't expect anymore perceptible changes to the plane's overall shape.
