Why haven't they clipped the back of the wing yet to reduce RCS? They already clipped the canards and the tailfins; why is the wing left out?

The aircraft is coming along pretty nicely and I'd kill to see someone do another RCS model of the aircraft.

I don't think Clipping the Wings is needed. The Tail and the Cannards yet as they are more likely to be in the vertical but the wings are a different matter. clipping them although attractive is from a looks standpoint, form a function standpoint is likely less a attractive feature besides the only way the wings become a major RCS issue is if the J20 is in the vertical or if she is flying directly over the radar

Both canard and tailplane contains an acute angle, whereas the wing contains an obtuse angle. Clipping was applied on acute angles only, which is why the wing is not clipped.

I'll add on to that only trailing acute angles were cropped.

It has to do with strength of the wing when used as control surface... The main wing is not turn and is made stronger. The canards and rudder is pushed as a whole so the tips get enormous pressure. That is the reason for the first part of the rudder... Hope that explains it.

a new photo of 2011

Nice ... still from the maiden flight or already a second one ?

By the way I was asked to do a News report on '2011' for both the Combat Aircraft Monthly and an even longer J-20 status report for the Air International ... due out in the next issues.

Awesome Deino, that's fantastic, I have been hoping you might have such an opportunity, and through extension, we might share those insights as well. It couldn't happen to a finer gentlemen, and I could only hope that down the road this might lead to an invitation to view the J-20 in her womb at Chengdu. We will be holding our breath, those are the kind of articles that "nutured" the Air Force Brat during my formative years, now if they would grant you a short interview with a few test pilot "aniqdotes", that would be a fabulous next step!

So looking forward to reading your article, even being privy to all the forum and a few other sources, I'm always left scratching my head thinking, Wow! Good for you brother. brat
