According to Fengbubei from CJDBY, the upcoming J-20 will be 2011. It will feature minor rear-aspect tweakings but still feature AL-31 engines. It appears that the first batch of J-20s to enter service will be based on this model, also using some variant of AL-31.

According to the Official Weibo fo DingSheng forum, the 2011 had a high-speed taxing yesterday at Chengdu. According to them the previous 2001 and 2002 are all just technology demonstrators for the 718 programme, and this will be the official prototype for it. It is estimated to fly before 11th Jan. The modifications will be:

1、Remove the pelvic fins.
2、Clipping of the vertical stabilizers.
3、Thrust vectoring engine nozzles.
4、The main weapon bay can now carry six PL15 missiles instead of 4.
5、The paint job will be that of similar to F22.

Here's a sketch of what 2011 roughly will look like. Anyway whether true or not we'll know by this month I believe:)

Also, Happy New Year to all members!

Fan boy dreams. Fan boys want the ventral fins to be removed because they "look ugly". Also, when those fan boys speak of thrust vectoring nozzles, they are referring to 2D nozzles on the F-22. These are dreams because they based purely on looks, not on engineering rationale and not on what China can realistically accomplish.

The Eng has it, I would like to see 2003, and I certainly hop they didn't renumber 2002.
