So there's still no sign of '2003' or proof for '2004' as a new airframe ???

But there's hope since I'm now off for the holydays and again I'm sure we will see a new prototype ... maybe Y-20 '20002', and so on ... ;)

Cheers and keep an open eye for all the news until I'm back.

Deino :D

Have fun Deino, maybe we'll name 2003 in your honor, you've been most patient, I'm rather certain they haven't flown or displayed either one yet, I'd say the PLAN is hogging the resources at this time, I'm sure Chengdu would love a visit from the pres???? maybe soon?? brat

People like to print their watermarks on photos

I am sorry if I am wrong but this photo seems to have been photoshopped from another picture. The lighting of the plane and the background doesn't match also the angle of lighting on the plane is not in synch with the shadow on the ground.
The high light of the front gears is also wrong since it's in a shadow.

Pretty sure it's legit.

We're all honed PS spotters here, and one of the most obvious telltale signs of doctoring is if one can find a forefront or background that the photo could have been modified from. And there's none, at least for this photo.

No this is doctored photo.
Three points that are obvious;
1. The front landing gear white painting should be darker in tone relatively matching the rear landing gear.
2. The alignment of the plane is slightly yawed to the port and yet the shadow is aligned straight with the marker lines on the runway.
3.The canopy and the front side rim of the plane is shining meaning the sun is in the front of the plane but the shadows in the rear does not collate which should be elongated more.

Other points that calls suspicion is that the shadows casted by the wings seems to be missing on the runway especially on the port side of the photo which should be seen somewhere on the white line.

The front landing gear is not darker because there is more light compared with the rear because the rear is obscured by the wings.

It is not yawed to the port. The front landing gear is positioned in between the main landing gear and this could have given the optical illusion.

3.The canopy and the front side rim of the plane is shining meaning the sun is in the front of the plane but the shadows in the rear does not collate which should be elongated more.

The sun is at best only slightly in front so the the angle is not sharp. The shadow is diffused because it could be morning or the the sky could be hazy or cloudy. You don't see much shadow in front because the plane is narrow at the front, allowing more light to overlap.

Other points that calls suspicion is that the shadows casted by the wings seems to be missing on the runway especially on the port side of the photo which should be seen somewhere on the white line.

Again it is because of the diffused lighting. That's my take. Other people may have better answers.

Actually there maybe a video of it. Around the time that pic surfaced, I saw on one of the Chinese sites someone had posted a video and the thumbnail image was a frontal shot of the J-20 with the missile out. I tried watching but the video wouldn't load. From the thumbnail it looked like the same lighting as the pic.

wild speculation: a have a hypothesis that ws15 may be a 2-2,5 ton engine (russian way of measuring engine weight- western way) with a diameter of around 1,4 or so meters. And that current j20 are flying with structural interface between engine and inner fuselage (ballasts) around al31 to simulate the extra weight distribution.
