Official statements by the air force indicate that the RCS of the F-22 is approximately that of a marble, so 0.0001 m^2 is likely to be correct. The F-35 is supposedly that of a golf ball.

Of course, no statement was ever made about what band the RCS figure is for, or from what aspect.

0.0001 m^2 is almost certainly correct as a minimum RCS of the F-22 in the X-band, where its RCS reduction is optimized.

I take all those prediction with ton of salt. Nobody can forecast that far in the future and who is this guy Maya other than forum participant He is not God by any mean.

He might have connection or relative in Gas turbine research but most likely low level connection

In that case, regardless of what 'maya' has said, you can look at other engine development. When was FWS-10 core testing completed and when did finally go into mass-production? There are no rumors or hints let alone images of full completed WS-15. Images of the 'core' 1st appeared in 2010. So it is possible the 'core' had finished testing in 2009 (maybe 2008). All rumors put it at 2009 and testing was completed very successfully. WS-15 is a very ambitious engine by the PRC with a possible 175 - 180 kn of thrust in production variant.

So the question again, would PLAAF/CAC risk putting a WS-15 on a J-20 at this moment?

Most likely no . Since J-20 is going with AL-31 currently , it is safe to assume that WS-15 and AL-31 have similar dimensions . Therefore , I expect modified Flanker airframe to be used for initial testing (first with one WS-15 , then with two ) . Only after that they would proceed with J-20 .

If J-20's engine compartment is sized for a larger diameter engine than the al-31, it could still be adopted for the al-31. Maybe someone can do photometric analysis of j-20's intake dimensions and see if they seem sized to handle more airflow than the al-31 requires. If so, then it seem a safe bet that WS-15 would turn out to be fatter than al-31.

Naval version perhaps?

I don't think so but I somewhere heard that report about one of the prototypes (2001) being repainted in a light air superiority grey and was surprised that Bai Wei already made a profile ...

If that is what they are doing then they should also make the roundel/insignia grey like they did with the F-22.

At first it sounds good but then they would end up painting the J21?31?411 or whatever were calling it this month the same and it would look way to much like Raptor then. If they have to make a subdued emblem, I think they should make the gold outline of the star red turn the red grey and keep the date characters gold

Are we talking about visual similarity to the F-22 because of possible friendly fire? Because if we're close enough to see the gold on the tail, then wouldn't it really be too late?
