Question, do the navy aviator normally fly their naval jet with the hook dangling like that?
I think these new images are showing planes practicing for the parade (evident by the new colorful paint scheme), where they probably want to clearly show to the audience that this is the cool carrier J-15, not some regular Flankers. The J-15's in regular exercises always have their hooks up tucked neatly between the stings.
Well....they could just look for the canards to know its J-15 as none of the flankers China have besides J-15 have canards (plus hooks are much harder to spot)...

Yes...I missed the better pics Deion posted a couple of weeks ago that show it more clearly. But I went back to July 14th and found them.Yes, it's indeed for the V-day celebration. This was captured a few days ago flying over Beijing. The same markings (red and yellow) can also be found on the wingtip pylons.
