you must be giddy from Holidays?????? much better than what??????? The F-18 is real airplane, doing real work every day, this is a drawing, kinda wonky looking and very busy, of a small bird loaded up with another engine, looking kinda like stuff is stuck on there, is it kool???? maybe?????? I don't know, something new has some appeal to us fellows, but the F-18 is a very well thought out, smart airplane, in both of its iterations, Hornet and Super Hornet, very unusual to upsize a fighter and still end up with something special, which the super-bug is something special, and it still appears very well proportioned... So I guess we'll listen to you explain why this vapor-ware bird is/will be better than the F-18???
as for the J-31, it needs a shot of Mo-Jo to get off the ground, a little more juice in the powerplants, a little more beef and a tail-hook. The J-15/Su-33 is a very hard act to follow, aerodynamically smart, and well balanced, agile for a large fighter, and stout as a bull, hard to beat???? IMHO???
Welcome Home Deino, tell us why this critter is such a great deal?????
The canards in that rendering is all wrong BUT the Flanker airframe would make a VERY good carrier borne strike fighter. If PLAN gets the J-15 or future Flanker variants right it will definitely give the super bug a run for its money... don't know if it'll necessarily be better but it will be very close regardless.
As it is in the real world when something is close to parity, the differences would come down to pilot training and supporting assets. Either way I've said it many times before PLAN made the right decision going with the Flanker airframe as their front line carrier borne strike fighter. The Flanker will be even more potent when she is deployed on super carriers carrying long range AAMs like the Phoenix that I believe PLAN etc is developing even if we don't have any concrete evidence as of yet.
Kwai, I'm a very big J-15 fan, and yes I would choose the j bird over the Super Bug, but BD's post said navalised J-10, in a twin engine variant, and you are right my boy, those canards are all wrong!

Thanks for Your kind "welcome back" and regarding Your question, I simply like delta-canards. As such it looks surely not very "hornetish" but it would have fulfilled the role of the Hornet or SH or even Rafale ... and even if it would not have reached the Rafele's beauty ... it would have been a "nice" design !

Totally OT.You know I love you man, in fact tomorrow and Wednesday, I have my first teaching jobs of the year,,LOL, and I REALLY think the PLAAF has totally missed the boat by not flying you to Chengdu, and I still have that Ben Franklin in my back pocket to kick in to your expense account, when they wise up and send you that ticket. Heck I'd love to come with you, but anyway, I know its a European thing, I LOVE Porsche 911s, BMW M5s, and for sure the new XK Jags, and Ferraris, well you get the picture. Because I am an American, I love Big Fighters like the F-15, F-22, J-15, and the J-20, not so sure about the canard delta's, but then isn't that what makes the world go round????
I was just laying down some "KRAP" on ya bro, I'm a little jealous of you going on Holiday, but I missed you as much as anyone, I assure you. and speaking of missing someone, the Scratch man is back. I think you mods should give him a warning, if he misses 7 days posting, you could deduct 500 marcs or euros or whatever from his bank account...
Welcome back gentlemen! brat
Ahh yes the navalized J-10.. the aircraft that never was..excellent twin engine rendering;
