J-15 carrier fighter thread

Deino's talking specifically about the J-15, which is a carrier aircraft.

Who would it be exported to?

It's a BIG carrier fighter so only a few carriers could use it...and all of the big carriers already have aircraft. Ergo, no export market for the J-15.

I would love for the USN to buy a dozen or so of these newer variants for DACT or even to fly around for fun LOL. Obviously not going to happen Alas!

Heck Kwai, you and I need one of these bad boys, but we prolly oughta have the 2 seater so we could scare our friends, I know there is somebody at Quincy who would love to chaperone a couple of Sino Defense Flying Sharks, LOL!

You guys forgot about Iran! China can export J-15 for Iran's Nimitz class aircraft carrier. :D

I think at best, SAC can only hope to sell the J-15 mock up (one similar to the one used on the Liaoning and at Wuhan). Mock up planes for a mock up carrier...

So, I guess they still will not have a customer for the "real" J-15 :D

LOL!

I do not think China would want to even sell a mockup J-15 to put on that scrap steel and plywood barge, only to be sunk most likely by Chinese provided or derived ASMs in an Iranian PR SINKEX.

It would not make for a very good image...besides, the Iranians will place US Navy look-alikes on that thing when they sink it.

What if....and I know it's a big if, China after rolling out indigenous carriers, sells off Liaoning to Pakistan? If the indigenous carriers were to be CATOBAR with no ski-ramp, Liaoning would be the odd carrier. Couldn't J-15s be adapted for CATOBAR ops?

First of all, Pakistan can't possibly afford an aircraft carrier and all the accompanying gear it also must buy to field a CBG. Even if China gave massive loans to Pakistan to buy the stuff, it's not at all clear Pakistan could operate the Liaoning or run a BG. Finally, beyond being great for deck aviation training, the Liaoning BG far outclasses anything she'll see in the SCS, not named the USN. Nope, the Liaoning would not be sold, and after she's decommissioned, she'll have an honored place as a museum.

Yes...a very big if...in fact, IMHO, a bridge too far I am afraid.

What Blackstone said.

I would surmise the first indigenous carrier built ground up will probably hold a higher honored place. Afterall, even though Liaoning is a commissioned ship, the navy still refers to her as a training carrier. It feels like they are reserving the distinction of China's first fully active carrier to the first 100% indigenous carrier.
