there would be some skid marks on launches too because of the tremendous 'jerk' of the cat but obviously nowhere close to landings when the aircraft literally pounds on the deck at full force. This is normal but skid marks on launches only become more apparent after a few launches unlike landings whee you'd have those marks almost immediately.

Are those WS-10s I see? If so, this aircraft represents not just Chinese catapult viability but also maritime jet engine maturity.

It also appears to be prototype '5' so can we assume there are four other prototypes undergoing testing?

Also curious whether the radome hosts a J-16-esque AESA radar or if they kept the J-11B radar.

Edit: On further inspection, the pitot tube makes me think this is only the J-11B's radar. The J-16's AESA does not have pitot tubes IIRC.

Good questions and observations.

This is another clear indication that a Chinese CATOBAR carrier is on the way...and probably sooner rather than later.

Clearly, 001A, which we suspect will be CV-17, is getting closer and closer to launch, and it will be STOBAR.

But I think we can presume that somewhere, especially with all the rumors and chatter to that effect, that 002 has probably started and is the deisng that these new J15s and their heavier landing gera were designed for.

The two red blocks are roll-up-roll-down "wheel holders" in front of every blast deflectors. The aft wheels will be held in place before launch and only released at launch moment. I do not see any skid marks in front of the "wheel holders", I only see some dark marks behind them. I guess these marks are what you referred to.

I would guess they are caused by the aft wheels when the aircraft are turned around on the spot. This is always true on the AC, but it will almost never happen on the land based test facility because there is plenty space to move the aircraft.

I don't get it... I get the "15" being mid month. But where did you get August from "J-15"? "J" is the the 10th letter not 8th...

No I don't get 8th months (not August in Gregorian calendar which is usually the 7th month in Chinese calendar) either. Nobody get it from J-15. 8 is deliberately ADDED to it so to make up the nickname "中秋" which is often used by Chinese netizens.

So only "中" meaning middle (15 of 30) is from J-15. "秋" meaning "Autumn" is pure fictional add-on to make up the nickname.
