I've always liked the J-10.

It was the aircraft (IMHO) that indicated to the world that the Chinese indigenous fighter industry had come of a modern age.

...and they never looked back.

... everything's all good until one considers that it still uses a Russian AL-31 engine.

Agreed.

At some point the Chinese are going to take the next step in terms of world class engines. You know they are working VERY HARD on it.

But that remains a critical issue for them.

Not that they can't build decent engines...because they do.

But they still are not world-class, cutting edge, pushing the envelope in that area. In order to realize all of their goals...they need to join that club.

I only wonder what J-10A/AS they want to export ??? Will that be refurbished ex-PLAAF-birds or is the production line still able to manufactre A-models in parallel to the B/C ??? And even more who would like to buy an A if the B/C is already available (maybe to ready for export) ??

Interesting .... FC-20.... this is the designation of PAF (J10s) which was singed few years back (Total 36 in first phase). But the model is J10A, however its not sure that PAF's J10 will be A/B or C, though the delay will suggests either B or C.

The PAF would not have gotten to name the export name of the J10.

The FC20 name was coined long ago, and first mentioned when Pakistan was thinking of buying J10s, but that doesn't mean it was Pakistan who came up with the name.
