J-10 Thread IV

Captain
Who cares if's it's a single engine or two engine jet planes when if it's the same engine (we've seen WS-10 and AL-31 used for two engine planes before). The fact of the matter is that ALL of J-10 reports that has engine failures had came from AL-31. Even the tested few J-10 with the WS-10 didn't have such an atrocious ratings and percentages in failures in compare to the AL-31 is my main point.

Russia has now sold nearly 1,000 AL-31 engines to China, where they power J-10 and J-11 fighters. (Photo: Vladimir Karnozov)

Al-31 is a reliable, in fact China has bought 1000 of them, for both J-11 and J-10s, but it does not mean accidents won`t happen, specially in a single engine fighter, it is common for the americans to lose F-16s for the same reasons and of course others

Just look how many F-16s were lost in 2014

see 7 american F-16 lost only in 2014 and 8 in 2013

i mean honestly see how many F-16s the USAF has lost, with all due respect most single engined aircraft have these problems and is nothing bad even if the cause was a Al-31 because these things happen to the French, Americans and Russians, and China is no exception

So never hearing about it means it happened instead ? LOL.
If you want to say it happened, go look for proofs it did.
If you follow PLA, you'd know we have plenty of news & leaks of all kinds of issues with PLA. In fact, PLA propaganda likes to report these kinds of news where 'heroic' pilots lands a jet with engine flame-out saving the jet & lives on the ground.
Are you saying we have more than 10-12 WS10 flame outs & not a peep of news or rumors about it ?
I want Chinese engines to succeed more than anyone, and I didn't say that no news means it happened. I'm saying that every time it happens with a J-10, we know it cus there's a crash, but we would not know it IF it happened with J-11 because there wouldn't be a crash (except for a double flame out). Therefore, you cannot conclude, with certitude that hearing J-10 crash but not J-11 crash means that AL-31 is less reliable than WS-10A.

Also, if I was AVIC, I wouldn't use less reliable engines on a single-engine aircraft and more reliable engines on a double-engine aircraft; I would do it the other way around to reduce likelihood of total engine loss-related accidents.

And landing a Flanker on one engine is not considered heroic at all; landing a J-10 with no engine, however, is.

It don't matter how many AL-31s China buys now because in the future when the WS-10s, 13s, 15s, and etc., would be replacing those Russian made engines. That's why the Russian are nervous therefore relying on their media mouth piece to sell their engines to whatever customers they got left.

Sure, when pigs fly.

Keep underestimating China's technology at one's own peril. Remember boys, this is the only country that has a working ASBM and HGV far ahead of the other players. Heck I wouldn't surprise Russia would be purchasing Chinese made drones and engines soon.

Drones in the next few years maybe, but jet engines will likely take a few more decades.
