J-10 Thread IV

Who said anything about "impossible"? I know I didn't, so let's not start with the straw men arguments. In fact I've already given you an example of an AESA that uses a separate IFF T/R system (the only one I know of), but my understanding of it is that its AESA necessitates this separation, so yes, if the J-10B's AESA used separate IFF transmitters, it would in fact be superduperspecial. In any case we are not talking about what is "impossible" or not, but what is most likely vs least likely. At that time, with those photos, it's pretty obvious that radar was a PESA.

Also, which displays and which commentators said that the J-10B uses an AESA? Do you have a link to said commentators?
I didn't say you said it was impossible. I was just relaying feedback I got from people who might know something about the subject. Don't have to be so touchy.

I linked to a few examples in my first reply to you. There were a few more that I didn't include because digging through and collating old posts on my phone was a pain. There were also some images that no longer exist (so we don't know what those images were) but were in those old posts which seemed to strengthen the case at the time. If you want dig through old SDF CDF posts on your own to see what I mean. We spent *a lot* of time discussing the identity of the radar in question 6 years back. Look through the posts from around May/June 2011 all the way to February/March 2012.

Searched through the J-10 Thread III thread for more previous AESA discussions and references and found this picture from 2013. The radar in this picture is curious because this was supposed to be a production plane, and the radar doesn't look like the radar with the IFF dipole. Anyways, you can dig through old threads and judge for yourself. I'm just saying this isn't an open and shut issue.

IMO in this image the radar itself is not installed yet; it looks like only the canted bulkhead. Or am i wrong?

So just discussion from people like you and me, not from actual people who created the radar or military officials or presenters at a show booth. In other words nobody of consequence who actually knew anything with any degree of confidence.

Look at the popsci article. I distinctly remember that interview happening. I recall another commentator in media in 2011 also saying the J-10B was using an AESA. We had some images that of information plaques that were suggestive of the radar being an AESA as well, though not conclusively. So no, not just discussion from people like you and me. I suggested that you dig through the archives yourself because that's where all the original leaks and rumours were posted.

Do you have video of the interview (by which I suppose you mean the interview with the test pilot)? I wouldn't necessarily trust a journalist's second-hand reporting of an alleged interview conducted in another language as a definitive source of accurate information. Did the pilot say ESA, or PESA, or did he actually and specifically say AESA? And why would a test pilot necessarily know or need to know exactly which radar was on the J-10B? Incidentally, the onus is certainly not on me to dig through stuff to confirm or deny a claim that you made.

Why are you so concerned about this issue that you must drag an argument rather than leave it gracefully?

Specifically AESA I imagine, since the words for AESA and PESA are pretty distinct in Chinese. We're talking about 6 year old content. Some of the images that were originally posted are now dead links. Anyways, I have already done a lot of digging. Certainly more than you have. Put some work in yourself if you want your opinions to be considered seriously. I replied on this matter to make a case. You don't have to be convinced.
