What does this all mean that the J-10B's are not in service yet because they are all sitting idle waiting for new engines ? Didn't or couldn't they have worked out the electricity issue in the 5 year testing period and before they started production ?

NO, they are not "not in service yet because they are all sitting idle waiting for new engines " since this issue (at least IMO) has been solved with the supply / purchase of AL-31FN Series III as widely reported, but it took time and YES they did (also IMO) with the same solution.

Anyway, I believe that the DSI variant of J-10 is equipped with AESA and more powerful engine. The article just explain why it takes so much time to make DSI variant of J-10.

Moreover, based on the following link, it is said that domestic made type 1475 AESA of J-20 as well as other avionics are put in a test bed of a modified J-10B.

possibly, but I wouldn't use sina news as a strong source.

The following picture shows a PESA, rather than an AESA. Comments in red say so.

No, comments in red said nothing about PESA or AESA

Yes, me too !

Higher than 108 numbers I have are:
110 saved on 13. April
111 on 16. April ... strangely nothing in between
120 on 4. July

earlier birds are:

101 on 11. December 2013
102 on 26. December
103 on 13 December
104 on 26. February
106 on 27. March
107 on 1. April
108 on 29. August

These are all J-10B serials I know so far.

I would seriously rank the J10B as a top tier fighter aircraft along with F16 E/F Desert Falcons, Typhoon and Rafale

A marvel of modern Chinese engineering really look forward to the first operational Squadorn in PLAAF colours
