You know...I like the J-10. It's like the stable, very nimble, effective fighter/attack bird of the PLAN that can and will be built probably in large numbers

This is a general comparispon and not wholly accurate, but it reminds me a lot of the F-16 in US service in terms of its basic fit, function and capabilities.

In fact (again, in very general terms) I like to compare the basic fit of Chinese to US fighters like so:

J-10 = F-16
J-11 = F-15
J-15 = F-18
JH-7 = F-15E
J-16 = F-15E
J-20 = F-22
J-31 = F-35

Again, not perfect fits, but something like that. You can fit Russian birds right into that matrix too.

It should be matched this way:

J-10A = F-16C/D
J-10B= F-16E/F

J-11A = F-15A
J-11B = F-15C

J-15 = F-18E/F

JH-7A = Panavia Tornado

J-16 = F-15E/F

J-20 = F-22A

J-31 = F-35A/C

F-15F?

LOL besides that I think the J-16, with its scope of upgrades, and its role, would better be compared against F-15SG.

IMO the JH-7/A isn't really comparable to the F-15E in power and performance. The F-15E will fly circles around the JH-7.

In terms of power, the JH-7 is probably somewhere between the Su-24 and the Tornado, with modernized weapons & electronics.

Isn't that what SinoSoldier said?

Is there any pic of JH-7 flying in low altitude?

I think sinosoldier was primarily talking about the role here. Both the JH-7/A and F-15E are primarily built with the striker-role in mind. F-15E, being a modified air superiority fighter, has the benefit of superior air to air handling.

The high wing JH-7A is purposely built as a striker bomber, inadvertently at the expense of maneouvrebility. It probably has more stability to launch bigger missiles, like the YJ-91 ARM, off its wings than the F-15E.

Well, outside of matching the JH-7A to the Tornado, you have matched them exactly as I did...you just narrowed it down by version.

And, since I was comparing directly to US aircraft, the Tornado would be out, and the closest comparison to the JH-7A in U.S. service is in fact the F-15E.

Please take a closer look at the engine nozzle. Can anyone tell what type of engine it is? Could it be WS-10?

Actually I'm Not sure, but I don't think so ... More interesting I think is what looks like a pod on the intake (right behind the gear door). brow
