J-10B with WS-10 engine doing a roll while going up vertically. Critics of Chinese engines could zip it for now:

Protruding refueling probe eliminate the possible failure of mechanism for retractable. Yes, it causes drag but the good point is there. Rafale too opt for this option. PLAN is always practical. If you want retracble refuleing probe. Wait for J20, cause the protruding probe is sure bad for RCS..

It might be because the refuelling probe needs to be placed in a way that does not interfere with airflow over the canards at the angle range it operates at. And that positioning may well made it impossible to design a retractable refuelling probe, beside space constraint with internal electronics, radar, canard servos etc.

It will be interesting to see if all/most canard type planes opt for non-retractable refuelling probe.

Why are you so interested/excited by this manoeuvre ? Is it a rare spectacle? technically difficult? does it demonstrate significant developmental achievement with regards the aircraft ? Educate me please if you don't mind.

I agree that it looks cool but with reference to Siegecrossbow's comment >

I don't get how combining a roll with a vertical climb shows how capable the engine is compared to just a vertical climb on it's own.Is this the 1st time we have seen any such vertical climb with a WS-10 in a J10?
