does anyone know how much drag or even RCS the refueling probe is compare to the boom type of air refueling where there is no protrusion? I'm surprised the Bravo didn't go the boom type but come to think of it I don't think PLAN has boom type tankers. All of their aeriel refuellers are the probe and drogue type.
At the very least they could've at least made the probe retractable on the J10B or even the A for that matter instead of just sticking out like that.

Protruding refueling probe eliminate the possible failure of mechanism for retractable. Yes, it causes drag but the good point is there. Rafale too opt for this option. PLAN is always practical. If you want retracble refuleing probe. Wait for J20, cause the protruding probe is sure bad for RCS..

The J15 actually have a retractable refueling probe, so China does have the technology for it.

The only reason I can see for not including it is an issue of space in the nose, especially with the new radar and IRST as well as other new avionics and subsystems they have stuffed in the J10B.

news from CAC on this avic1 article. There is a picture of the bottom of J-10B's radome. It just talks about CAC working hard to finish production duties.
