So why the English on the patch? Is this a sort of slow transition to all English or something? I don't see the USAF having Spanish on their patches. .

English is the default international language, so it makes sense to allow foreigners to be able to quickly tell which country the guy belongs to. Probably useful if they were attending international events or taking part in international missions/exchanges etc.

Anyways, with the way things are going, in a few decades, the USAF may well be putting Chinese on their patches alongside English. :p

Alright you guys, no more discussion of languages in the J-10 thread. Any more posts on that topic will get you a warning.

I will move some of the off topic posts to the other thread.

As far as I remember we have sen these PL-12-twin-launchers only in model-form on display-models ... this one seem to be a real J-10A with training rounds !

Yeahh I think that's exactly what it is. I wonder if this means we're finally going to start see J-10s flying with some more impressive load outs.

I remember long time ago had an argument with some guy ("lion" was his name) that J-10 can nor can't carry 4 PL-12 or not (all pic at that time were with J-10 with 2xPL-12).

IMHO J-10 should have gone with the conformal fitting route for PL-12. save space underneath wing, it's got a pretty crowded wing.

I think they should have gone both, just to increase versatility. For the life of me I still don't really see why they can't do so. Is the missile's wingspan too big or something?

At least there is hope in that conformal fuel tanks in future will free up wing stations, and the four smaller fuselage stations, while maybe incapable of carrying BVRAAMS, can potentiallt carry PGMs

The underbody hard points do not have enough length.

Chinese are not very good at designing landing gears, and often places aerodynamics over weapon load. What they need to do is to learn from Grippen NT, add modest bumps, redesign the main landing gears, and that will give enough room to carry missiles under the body.

[Note: Thank you to Deino for the picture.]

J-10 can carry up to three missiles under each wing.

"Both the J-10 and J-11B are adapted to carry the PL-12 active-radar air-to-air missile (equivalent to the U.S. AMRAAM), as well as earlier Chinese weapons such as the PL-8 (similar to Rafael Python 3) and the PL-11 (semi-active radar honing missile based on the Italian Aspide). Both types also have an impressive air-to-ground capability and are being developed to carry a range of precision weapons.

According to reports in the Chinese media, the J-10 and Flanker have met several times in mock combats, with the J-10 reportedly coming out on top in most engagements. This indicates not only its superior flight control system, but also highlights the capabilities of the aircraft’s indigenous avionics. However, the Flanker scores well in terms of range/load characteristics."

In the picture, "there are three missiles on the J-10 Fighter. From left to right, first is PL-8 (Python III), second is PL-11 (Aspide) and third is SD-10 (also called PL-12)."
