In the US the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds would be turned back into service if needed in time of war. Probably the same reason here.

I don't understand the connection.
Those refueling probes are not fixed, they could be removed and attached later.
I've always considered those refueling probes quite ugly.

Well it could easily be that since these planes would be going abroad for demos, it would be more efficient for them to fly there themselves instead of requiring to be freighted over and then re-assembled. The probe would extent their reach beyond that which could be reached on tanks and internal fuel alone.

As for the probes being detachable, well I wonder. Has anyone seen a J10 without a probe after they started fitting them on as standard?

Why would the demonstrators be any different from any other J-10? Fuel probes seem to be fixed on J-10As and J-10Ss.

Because it has been reported that these are custom birds. You can tell from pictures that they have modified the tail to incorporate what looks like a smoke generator where the normal J10s have the landing chute. There are likely to be other modifications, but its hard to tell visually.

unless I'm completely off the base, Andreas is Deino. So, good job. I'd only expect something of this quality from a person that has been following PLAAF for this long.

Thanks for Your kind words !!! ... hopefully You liked it but critics are always wellcome !

If interested, part two will be in the recent issue (July - out this weekend) covering the fighter-bombers and part three on the bombers will be published later that year. In between part 2 and 3 there will be a report about the PLAAF's AEW/AWACS-assets.

Again, hope You like it.

Cheers, Deino or Andreas if You like !

Deino.... it's entirely possible that both u and tphaung would be appointed us commentators sooner or later. Other interesting person(s) Maya, Aliasmaya and Crobato. may join at a later date. Too bad Crobato seems to stay away these days. (perhaps busy)

Ive noticed that the j-xx design in this image is very different from the design in huitong´s website. Why? and whom do you think is more accurate?

I thought the one you talk about is "An Jian", a UCAV model presented at the Zhuhai Air show, not a model of J-XX. I thought the purpose of the pic in the article is to illustrate that some of the concepts in the "An Jian" has been incorporated into the deisgn of J-XX.

Who knows what the J-XX is going to look like. There was some speculation too that the J-15 was going to be possibly this other "different" design, shown on Huitong's site as well, yet it turned out to be just like an Su-33. I hope that the J-XX does have a delta configuration as it's being speculated because at least it'll be different than others. I'm definitely not in the camp as some who seem to be completely happy with China making look-a-like copies.

Here are a couple better pics of that same image.

This one had some buzz of possibly being the one.

Who knows.
