The diplomat was promptly taken to a hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable. Israeli authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the incident. Israeli media outlets have reported that the diplomat was assaulted with a knife.

If the victim himself is a diplomat, being family member to another diplomat is irrelevant and redundant. The mistake does not make a difference of the assult in legal terms, but it is very different in determining the motivation and implication. Knowingly attacking a diplomat may be political motivated and linked to ongoing event in Gaze, but attacking a foreigner (Israeli or not) may just be caused by personal dispute.
