Very interesting news today from the Rayyan Pocket
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

The report says that the SAA have at least split the pocket by taking settlements (including Rayyan itself) in a line from the Thermal plant that must link to the SAA front line at Tall Aran.

It also says that the ISIS fighters have concentrated in the three villages in the South East of the pocket.

Reading between the lines is that the pocket has indeed just collapsed and that the fighters have put themselves in the vicinity of the narrowest neck of the Govt controlled land taken during the relief of Kuweires last year and intend to break out to the ISIS held town of Umm Arkllah to the East, on the other side of it.

Its all moving very very fast!

identified in the previous post as the concentration points for the trapped ISIS fighters.

Not to be honest not quite sure what exactly this is telling us!?

Story now is that the fight is over and that most of the ISIS militants fled before the gap was sealed leaving an effective suicide rear guard at the thermal plant to keep the Tiger Force busy while the rest slipped out before the door closed.
Looking forward to seeing the new maps and getting some broader media confirmation - but it certainly looks legit and this source has proved reliable.

So, next target? Is it north to Al Bab or East To Deir Hafer?
My hunch is East to join the other pincer movement heading towards Raqqa and to keep out of the Kurdish/Turkish squabble on the northern border.

Or to put it another way, for the Syrian Govt to have retaken all the rest of the rebel/terrorist held territory before turning its attention to any Turkish or other State Invasion of sovereign Syrian territory.

Near Lake Assad is Giro airbase which when taken and repaired will put a heavy stop on the connection between Daesh and Turkey. On the map the roads to there look better than those to Tabka airbase. Military Maps show a retreat on the road to Tabka but advance to either airbase would seriously threaten Daesh.

Equation

Lieutenant General
The reason for the speedy retake of those villages by the SAA is that ISIS units supply lines are being cut off by those bombings. Ammo, water, food, and medical must be very low. That's why so many of them can't hold on to those land and position that they have took earlier. I bet their combat moral must be quite low.

Got this from a commenter on an article in Al Jazeera.

Let me control the media and I will turn any nation into a herd of pigs......Propaganda minister Goebbels
1. Regime = Syrian legitimate Govt
2. Brutal Dictator Assad = Syrian legitimate President Bashar Al Assad
3. Regime forces = Syrian National Army
4. Regime loyalists = Syrian civilians defending their villages
5. Regime supporters = All non jihadist Syrian citizens
6. Moderate opposition = terrorists who kill Syrians for regime change
7. Rebels = Saudi Arabia and Western backed terrorists
8. Activists = One man based in the UK who is an ex convict in Syria
9. Pro Regime militia = Hezbollah and Syrian fighters helping the Syrian Army against rebels
10. Assad regime = The Syrian administration led by President Bashar Assad.
11. Freedom fighters = Multi national terrorists working together for government change in Syria/

I know it probably isn't but it seems this is most confusing war ever from what is said from the outside of what's said is going on in the inside.

The plot thickens!

The news reports this morning is that ISIS managed to launch a counter attack against the SAA south of Lake Jabbal in South Aleppo and cut the long vulnerable supply line to the Govt held regions of the City and Province.
The fact if it being an ISIS attack was then contradicted by reports that these were rebels affiliated to the FSA.

Now the reports are saying

That it was joint co-ordinated attack between ISIS and the FSA

On the ground the SAA are obviously moving to restore the link, but the effect on the Cease Fire negotiations will be interesting to say the least......

If I understand the map at Military Maps correctly the attack came out of the desert so further supplies to or retreat from the action by FSA and Daesh will be difficult and expensive. Helicopters and Su-25's can play an important role.
