I think the size of the IVAS 1.2 is roughly adequate, it seems about as compact as you can make them without sacrificing performance or capability. However I wonder how quickly the PLA can get these in service for their SF units. It seems to me that these are all prototypes and the PLA has yet to consider one for actual service.

Given the PLA doesn't even have NODs issued as standard even for its regular SOF, and given the way that systems like IVAS tend to go including the cost of such systems, the robustness demands of infantry and average technical competence of said infantry, I wouldn't hold my breath.

These are useful technology pursuits, but don't be too surprised if they get trialed and not adopted in any meaningful way. Especially for the PLA, there are far more important domains of warfare to pursue than uber gucci cutting edge halo-esque infantry capabilities.

It is interesting that PLA settled on putting rank on the sleeve like the PAP for the new uniforms, back in 2019 one would have thought that the new norm were going to putting the rank and name in front of the plate carrier . I wonder why the soldiers didn't like the idea and preferred the sleeves more.

Any other countries adopted that too?

Not that I can think of. It doesn't feel very practical if I'm honnest (the rank being only visible from the side, and only from one side at that being the most problematic).

From the point of view of someone that served, I find the chest velcro with all the info in one clean package from the 2019 parade was ideal: you want to be able to know the rank and name of whoever you are talking to ASAP. It's also not so big that an enemy with low magnification optic could easily make out who are the officers from the enlisted.

Israelis does put it on the sleeve while wearing the new uniforms , but it isn't quite consistent , some units do it , some don't.
Though it does make sense to me when I think about it , PAP special ops units have a lot of counter terror training with the Israeli units.

I doubt that visibility is a big problem in this case , say you wear it on the right sleeve ,it is only invisible from your left , but you will see it just fine from the front .Sure ,comparing to a chest velcro , sure it bit off to the side , but somehow I doubt that this is a big problem .

Since the main purpures of wearing visibly the rank in the military is quickly establish an hierarchy when you meeting people from other units , within a given unit ,the rank is known by your peers even if you don't wear it. The main use case that you care about is from the front anyway, So I also doubt that left invisibility is a major concern.
