I have to ask, with how much India buys russian stuff, couldnt they have gotten some russian engines for the tejas instead of GE, they be delivered more easily and atleast not get cut-off incase relations get shaky

I wouldn't be so quick to blame GE for this. We're talking about HAL here, and HAL is perfectly capable of screwing the pooch!
Would it be faster though? Russia is fighting a war right now, and they're not exactly going to prioritize production for India. For the same reason, I think that the Super Sukhoi upgrade plan is going to take forever to materialize.
