hey've basically put naked R-73s onto rails mounted on a truck, no missile cannisters.

That's actually fine tho as those missiles do have guaranteed life when mounted externally. Like typical Russian missiles e.g R-77 have "shelf life" before overhaul when crated of about 8 years. It comes with calendar to determine missile's remaining life when in assembled and mounted in pylon condition.

Both systems use outdated Russian missiles. Those missiles performed poorly against slow-moving target drones.

There should be no real target speed limitation for R-73 or maybe AKASH too. Missiles have many parts that can fail tbh.

Norway's NASAMS and Israel's SPYDER mount AAMs in cannisters. But Superpowar India is happy to just mount naked R-73s onto rails on a truck. You know what? The Houthis did actually use R-73s as improvised SAMs against Saudi warplanes. Their effectiveness is high debatable though. They were able to repurpose R-73s to SAMs in workshops.

Point is, why could Supapowar India, with all its technological and industrial prowess be so proud of developing a product that the Houthis could make in workshops in 2022? I think I know why. Its a combination of laziness, corruption, and Jai Hind. SAMAR is not a work-in-progress, its a Jugaad. Its already the final product, proudly Made-in-India. And the Jai Hinds are super proud of Jugaad. This is the standard of progress in Modi's India. Congratulations!

Modern SAMs are designed to engage supersonic aircraft anyway. Both the R-73 and AKASH have supersonic top speeds, so on paper, they shouldn't miss target drones flying in a straight line at subsonic speeds. Not just once, but multiple times. All missiles can fail, but to fail this often in a single public event? What's worse is that the event commentator and the Jai Hinds online are spinning excuses for this. Why bother to improve, if they can just spin excuses? That is why India belongs in the league of 3rd world militaries, and its even more than contented to stay there.

TLDR version
I had an argument with a Jai Hind guy just before I left Quora. Was talking about 5.5 gen technologies, artificial intelligence, laser weapons and nearly-invisible stealth.

They all seem to repeat the same thing:

- J-20 bad, made in chyna chainees technology
- Su-30mki super sukhoi with brahmos mk2 will destroy chainees airforce
- RCS of chingdu j-20!!!! RCS ! RCS! RCS! Canard!!!RCS!!!
- BRAHMOS! BRAHMOS !!!!! BRAHMOS!!!
- we have israeli radar and french avionics!!!
- metal cutting for AMCA started already
- hal tejas is 4.5 gen, malaysia considered buying
- hal tejas mk2 better than chingndu!!!!!
- uttam AESA can supress chainees airforce!!!!!!!!!

I get it, you're nationalistic, great stuff for your country. Directly applies to that one Jai Hind guy in this thread and many more. But there has to be a limit for the dribble you spew. No, HAL AMCA is not on track to be mass produced anytime in the near future. India has a very very young technological and manufacturing capability, with barely what one could call an R&D sector.

No, incorporating Russian, French and Israeli technology on a Su-30 in a Frankenstein-like configuration does not make it a great fighter plane.

Yes, this applies to anyone who is blinded by nationalism over objectivity.
