My word, that "Fire Power Demo" was a good laugh. All that hype. All that pride. Missiles, rockets, and bombs were missing their targets. Bombs detonating inconsistently. And the Jai Hinds shamelessly claiming that those misses and duds where "intentional". Typical Indian wordplay for excuses. This reminded me of that farcical "Swarm Attack Drone Demo" years back where we see quadcopter drones dropping grenades on exploding wooden tanks. It seems like India have improved little, if any at all since then.
The bombs were inconsistent. Some waited for seconds before exploding, some never explode, and some explode per usual. If this was intentional by the Indians, then what is the point? Why make your LGB inert? The guidance system will still be gone even if the bomb is inert. Later on, there were live detonation of other munitions anyway. Were some of those bombs actually duds, and the pre-planted explosives in the ground were the backup plan? If so, the health of the munitions in the Indian stockpile doesn't look good. So much for war readiness. Most of the bombs dropped in the demo were actually dumb bombs dropped from low altitudes. There were only a few PGMs in this demonstration. Were they too precious to expend in this demonstration? This an airforce who proclaims itself to be amongst the best in the world and ridicules the PLAAF. Yet it resorts to mostly old-fashioned low-altitude dumb bomb bombing runs. Yeah, a real Supapowar air force.
The SAM missiles not detonating were clearly misses. The Rafael's MICA detonated as per usual, but the "Indian missiles" didn't, because they clearly missed. India talks alot about their self-developed weapons, and the SAMAR and AKASH sums up their efforts. Both systems use outdated Russian missiles. Those missiles performed poorly against slow-moving target drones. A terrible showcase of their quality. If Armenia is watching that, they'd better ask for a refund. Can you trust that AKASH you just bought against the TB2s? It can't even hit target drones. The SAMAR for me for me is lazy R&D. Its inducted into service in 2022, so its supposedly brand new. They've basically put naked R-73s onto rails mounted on a truck, no missile cannisters. Something that even the Houthis' could have done so themselves in a workshop. For a Supapowar to do this is, LOL! This is what the Modi era is all about. Lot's of talk, but very little work to show for it.
Speaking about drones, when we get the IR UAV view of the target, its like we were viewing it from a UAV from the 2000s. The resolution is poor today's standards. A TB2 had better resolution than that. India still doesn't have modern MALE and HALE drones in 2024. It is still struggling to procure MQ-9Bs from the US despite hyping up drone warfare in 2020. Compared to the nation that it claims to rival, there is just no contest.
India can only compare its military to other third world nations. Its mentality, capability, and competence belongs in the league of 3rd world militaries. Till today, it is still heavily reliant on foreign suppliers. Its indigenous R&D is getting from bad to worse. All of India's greatest pride today like the the Tejas, Akash, Brahmos, etc were "developed" decades ago with generous inputs from foreign suppliers, and all not under Modi's reign. Despite the new toys and numerous joint training exercises, India's military quality looks to be declining, even when there is not much quality to begin with. India in the Modi era is celebrating mediocrity, finding excuses, and spinning defeats into "victories". Its not a professional military, its a clown show.
