Don't feel smart yet. You are not gonna fool anyone here.btw can anyone share any details abt the firing ranges of pcl-181
every website in the internet says it has 53 km range with RAP rounds
You only quoted from one website: Military-Today.net
The PCL-181 is capable of direct and indiret firing. Maximum range of fire could be up to 53 km with a rocket-assisted V-LAP projectile.
There are 2 other websites who quoted otherwise
The cannon can reach 40 kilometers in the case of launching conventional grenades, and can reach a range of up to 45 kilometers. The bottom-range extended range projectile can reach a range of 50 kilometers, and with the rocket extended range shell the farthest range of up to 72 kilometers can be reached.
The howitzer has a 52-caliber barrel and is exactly the same as that of the PLZ-05 self-propelled howitzer. The vehicle features semi-automatic ammo reload, where the operator places the shell on the loading arm and the loading arm loads the round into the breech. It has a maximum firing range of up to 40 km with conventional ammunition and 72 km with extended range ammunition. It is compatible with all standard 155 mm NATO ammunition, as well as indigenous ammunition developed by NORINCO. The PCL-181 is equipped with an automatic fire control system (AFCS). Following the operator’s input of a target’s azimuth data, the vehicle-mounted computer can calculate the trajectory of the artillery, and automatically lay the gun.
Nevertheless, all of these websites quoted here are not considered reliable sources. Go to our PLA artillery thread to find out some more reliable information. The most reliable information about the PLA are mainly in the Chinese-language medium. Chinese English-language sources only touches the surface of PLA developments. While non-Chinese English-language sources are mostly speculative in nature.
Stop bashing the PCL-181. Hundreds have been produced and deployed by the PLA already. Some have even been exported to Pakistan. Untold numbers of rounds have already been fired by the PLC-181 in numerous exercises. That weapon system is in full active service and is ready for action at anytime today.
The Indian MGS, for all its greatness is still in development. Zero Indian MGS as of now have been deployed by the Indian Army. Not to mention the years that it would take to train artillerymen to use it proficiently. Having hundreds of PCL-181, ready for action now is much better than hyping up an MGS that is yet to be deployed in a couple of years time.
