February 2, the defence minister will inaugurate the LCA’s third assembly line in Bengaluru. The new line was completed last year. The third line will be dedicated for producing 18 LCA Tejas Mark 1 trainers. HAL will convert the line into the future hub for export versions of the aircraft.

HAL is to start delivering the LCAs beginning February 2024. The aircraft maker will complete deliveries of all 83 jets to the IAF by 2028-29. To meet the delivery schedules of 16 aircraft per year, the aircraft-maker is sourcing Tejas wing sections from its Su-30 MKI assembly line in Nashik.

------
So no Mark 2,3, Fancy Acronym Fighters (FAF) etc going to see Full Production until 2030.

I thought there were four production lines. I overestimated the country.

I really don't understand the pace and path followed. I read from the other forums that AMCA prototype will fly sometime after 2025.
It is likely to mirror the South Korean KFX program.

Don't know about Tejas but AMCA might be produced by a private company.

So, in theory. A split is emerging. The recent Mark 1A upgrade of Tejas was totally designed by HAL. ADA had no part in it.

So in future, HAL will both design, develop and produce it's own aircrafts. (Bit with some outsourcing)

While, ADA and a private consortium will do theirs.

In theory, at least that's the motive.

Mirror the KFX program? You mean they will ask Lockheed Martin for assistance and then end up with a stealth shaped plane without a missile bay?

Likely to happen. ( ha. I don't know if they'd receive LM assistance )

As you'd know, the Korean program starts with a 4th gen fighter which later realizes a fully 5th gen platform. Sounds very realistic and achievable to me.

I don't understand the rush for producing a prototype regarding AMCA. I'm convinced that a prototype shall debut soon (2025-2030 time frame) and I did mention in a previous post that it'd due to politics if anything.

As I said, it would be "hollow", without the substances of a true 5th gen fighter.
The RAM, the sophistical computing power, the pilot - aircraft interface, EW, Stealth AESA radars, other communication systems... The list is huge. Another thing is the electrical power demanded by the engines for such an aircraft.

I have yet to see concrete evidence of a big aircraft manufacturing base that'd enable the truck load of innovations that'd make a true 5th gen possible.

Our pointer here is LCA Tejas Mark 1A (as it is the only indigenous fighter of India) and even in that case close to 50% is foreign.

As far as I know, Turkey, South Korea and Japan are all superior to India in technology base. I'm smelling vaporware.

Which private company in India is a big enough name in Aeronautics? Aeronautical Engineering is an experience demanding industry.

There might be companies that'd sell some aviation components but no full fledged Aeronautical Manufacturing Private company exist.

I'd like to know a name. I'd be surprised.

It’s possible if they buy the requisite systems from other countries e.g Radar, engine etc, and then do the rest on their own. But that will be expensive which is actually what the Koreans are doing. Tejas took 14 years to develop from first flight to service, and it is less advanced than a 5th gen( even some 4th gens too), so yeah I agree that this is not looking optimistic for HAL.
